Carole Vallejo: Amazing Reading !

Patricia: I have had the whole series on this story for quite some time, this particular one I bought second hand and needed to buy this one as my old copy had fallen to pieces

Denise Hammonds: What a great insight into early humans and their ways/life.
The intensive research and the authors imagination armed with this knowledge, has developed into this fantastic series.
Dislike: repetitive descriptions within the same book. I get you have to explain earlier facts contained in a previous book, but once within a following book should be enough.

rosekrystofolski: This book is about Ayla who is in the Prehistoric European Valley where she has lived since leaving The Clan with Jondalar, the man she met when she saved him from her pet lion when a group of people approach and greet them. This book is about Ayla's first experience with living with a group of people, other than the Clan. Unfortunately, as Jondalar had warned her, there are people who think that The Clan who raised her aren't people but animals and would especially look down on her for having a child who was part Clan but Ayla stands up for herself and the holy man at the camp where she goes with the people they meet actually stayed with the same Clan group that would raise Ayla years later after he broke his arm in a hunting accident. In this camp another man takes a strong romantic interest in Ayla and Jondalar is unable to control a fierce jealousy which causes multiple misunderstandings between them and leads to Ayla thinking Jondalar doesn't love her or want her anymore and she is adopted by the Mamutoi but eventually Ayla tells Jondalar that she loves him and wants to accompany him on the very long journey to his home and leave to begin their journey

K. Thomas: I have all 5 from this series and my aged paperback gave up the ghost by falling apart in a hospital waiting area. Nice to read without worrying all the pages are there.

Andie: This book is the third in a series and having read the first 2 I looked forward to this one ( if a bit regretful that Mammoths we’re going to be killed ( they being my favourite extinct mammal 😁 ) well firstly mammoths were killed but not many, there was a lot of what I enjoyed in the first two examining how humans could have survived back then, very good, but a huge part of the book was given over to a love triangle ( to quote Del Boy ‘oh ménage a trios’ ) this made it less interesting to me ( a 67 yo male I confess ) I just wanted to slap their faces with a large wet fish! Can’t say much more without spoilers but there are emotional moments making it worth a look but I did struggle and felt it too long

Cris Cross: Jean Auel is an exceptional writer. Even though the book is set 30'000 years ago, Jean shows a mastery of modern day psychology. She covers topics of racism, sexism, and political savvy all within the pages of this exciting novel. When you read a book of this quality and understanding of human nature, you can't help but know that Jean must be an exceptional parent herself. Her wisdom is apparent.

NorthernDoor: I enjoyed almost every book in Earth's Children, but this one is like almost all of them: there is too much intimacy, graphic intimacy, and it's the same scene page after page and repeated throughout the book. A librarian told me the book was almost banned there because it was considered pornographic. Anyway, if you can (and choose to) bypass the hot pages, the rest of the story is fascinating. Ayla remains the unbelievable superhero/deity continuing the path that led her to discover how to start fire, among other things. More characters add flavor to the narrative. It's a must read sequel to The Valley of Horses and key to the series. I've read it a few times and always find something new, it's so involved. It's a good book to lose yourself in for a few hours.

Nicola: I like a good `will they, won't they' scenario as much as the next person, but when this scenario stretches on for a good 600+ pages it starts to get just a little bit irritating!

Yes, it's on to the third book of the Earth's Children saga- and thankfully it's another mesmerising, unforgettable tale of primeval man. Ayla and Jondalar, the mysterious man whose life she saved in book two, have now embarked on a journey away from the Valley of Horses to find more people and have encountered them, much to Ayla's excitement and consternation. They eventually settle into the Mamutoi tribe and whilst Ayla finds it strange to be with other people, and more to the point people who look like her for a change, instead of the `Flatheads' of her former adopted clan, her differences to the Mamutoi actually make her all the more appealing, especially to the charming carver, Ranec...

Another fabulous story written in such an imaginative, skilful way- Jean M Auel has really done her research into the time of primeval man, tribes, their tools and the continents at that time and it really gets your mind ticking to try and understand a time so different from ours. I just love these...
