Djilly L.Djilly L.: Firstly, this book and the series stands out because of the choice of topics. To place Jim Henson, a man that thoroughly impacted my childhood, among historical giants such a Washington and Gandhi is simply brilliant. Secondly,. the books in this series are super well-presented that are excellent for children of all ages and entertaining for adults as well. Our 10-year old daughter has a passion for famous historical characters. And she prefers to read about a wide range of them and through this get to know about different historic era’s as well. She has read a lot about the obvious female heroes like Florence Nightingale, Frida Kahlo, Madame Curie ect. However she really likes to know more about other people that she has heard of.
Thirdly the adorable cartoon style nature of these little books and he relatively straightforward though smart storyline perfectly captures the essence of the topic. That is simply brilliant. The 40-page book is very colourful and comes with a durable hard cover. For now our daughter has read it but her younger brother is also staring to read the books in this series. And invariably they lead to little discussions and questions about the topics...

DDWDDW: This series of books for young readers by Brad Meltzer is phenomenal! The “I am...” series highlights ordinary people who went on to change the world. It’s a fun biography series for younger readers that features great role models such as Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks, Albert Einstein and Sacajawea.
This particular book is about the beloved Jim Henson, who helped to create The Muppet Show and Sesame Street. The books are beautifully illustrated by Christopher Eliopoulos, who masterfully creates cartoon-like images for the book which help to entice a young reader’s attention. There are speech bubbles, as well as regular text. These are great text features for any young reader who is delving into nonfiction for the first time too. Plus, any young comic book reader may also like this style of writing too.
The books always follow a chronological order, starting when the person was very young and gradually adding information to show how the person was shaped into the great role model he or she became.
My favorite part is at the end of each book, however. There is a timeline of the person’s life (great nonfiction text feature!) that not only uses dates, but...

DeLong: I was trying to find a newer and updated sort of biography on Jim Henson that talked more about him growing up and what he was good at and less about his troubles and how and when he died (my little guy adores Jim but doesn't need to know about all that just yet). This book is ADORABLE! The illustrations are fantastic and it gives you a good look into the world of Jim Henson. We were a little bummed it didn't elaborate on too much more than Sesame Street and such but my son loves it, so that works for me!
