GracieLou731GracieLou731: I buy quite a few used books and they can frequently have a musty mildew odor. I rigged something up like the customer who bought this to use on old album covers. The plastic bin I have isn't air tight, so I put it in a big thick (2 mil) plastic bag and tie is close. It works like a charm. I use plastic party-favor slinkies to separate the pages so the ozone can hit the pages and the binding. I run it for (2) 30-minute cycles and it removes 98% of the odor. I have set this up on my patio because ozone is not good for people, pets, or plants. At the end of the cycle I open up the container and expose the books to fresh air for an hour or two.

Of course I would check with an expert before trying this on valuable books and those with delicate or worn pages and bindings.

I'm very happy with this purchase.

Locksmith: Back from a trip, I have found that my refrigerator's compressor has failed. Thus, all food in the refrigerator and freezer spoiled for what appeared to be several days. It was not a pretty scene.

The result was a bad odor. Bad. The refrigerator was cleaned and disinfected numerous times, yet the odor persisted. I purchased activated charcoal. Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). Fridge deodorizers. Put all of them at the same time. Vented the refrigerator. Cleaned and recleaned. Yet, the odor was resilient.

I came to a point wherein it was either (1) discarding the refrigerator; (2) deploying two plutonium cores, one at the freezer part, one at the refrigerator part; (3) using the closest thing to chemical warfare.

Option (2) proved difficult because a certain nation in Asia has been commandeering the plutonium market, and the supplier was low in stock. Plus, I got a bit of a pushback from neighbors after I disclosed this plan during an HOA meeting, worried that the resulting mushroom cloud could have an impact on property values (plus pets glowing in the dark could affect sleeping patterns of the owners). Next in the list, option (3).

While the scent of old albums and books can be “soothing” most have been stored in basements, attics etc. Over the years I’ve tried everything…airing them out (for months in the garage), storing in bins with dryer sheets, odor absorbers etc. No luck ever!

I stumbled upon an article that hunters use this method to remove smells from their gear. For $50 why not try it. IT TOTALLY WORKS!

I used an old storage bin to make an ozone box. Basically ran the hose from the machine into a small hole I made in the plastic bin. Beyond that just place the stinky material (paper jackets and sleeves only, no actual albums), close the box and run for a couple 30 min cycles. The album jackets and sleeves come out with a much more mild smell with no bothersome odor. I’m now able to spin all my vinyl without smelling up the room!

Only issues (totally my fault) this model only has a max setting of 30 minutes. I did not notice when ordering and probably would have preferred 60 min max timer.
