Jackie M.: I grew up with Bible characters who were supposedly from the middle east and Egypt etc who were blonde and blue eyed and didn’t want the same for my boys. Looking at the cover online my son immediately said “that little boy looks like me”. Thanks to the authors and illustrator my sons can be introduced to the gospel in a way that allows them to see themselves as God’s children important enough to be represented in the Bible.

A. McDaniel: Although I bought this for my youngest daughter, I'm finding that I enjoy reading this for myself. I love the simple interpretations of the Bible stories, which provide new perspectives. The illustrations are great; I just giggle at the way the characters are drawn. And I love that the characters have realistic skin tones. I highly recommend.

MilianMilian: When I handed this Bible over to my sons, born of an African mother and proud citizens of Uganda, my youngest one got excited and opened it and looked for Daniel in the Lion's den. "This is me!", he exclaimed. Upon seeing the angel at the empty tomb, my middle one said: "He has the same hair as I do!" The oldest one was especially excited to see the story of the Queen of Sheba featured. A great Bible with lovely illustrations for all children, especially useful for teaching children of color that they belong in the Bible and the Bible belongs to them.

Note: It seems that in earlier versions, some of the angels were white (unlike all other characters). In the most recent edition, this has been fixed (see my pictures).

Madison Fernandez: We were looking for a good bible for our 20 month old (he started wanting longer stories). I have a bachelors degree in theology and was being very picky about what his first bible would be. This one has a great balance of age appropriate content while staying true to the themes. Each ‘chapter’ is 4-5 digestible pages. The characters are all the right races (Jesus is brown). In contrast to what some other reviews say there are white AND brown angels. I definitely recommend this as a kids first Bible! Very appreciative to the authors.

THORTHOR: The media could not be loaded.  After much research for a Children’s illustrated Bible book, I purchased this book and The Classic Children’s Bible Storybook. First thing out of my daughter’s mouth,”Wow! I got a new L.O.L. God book!”
What? LOL? God book? Okay. So to my 5 year old-this is a God book since it’s about God (not an illustrated Bible), and she called it an L.O.L God book, since the drawings have big eyes like the LOL dolls. Ok, makes sense in the way a 5 year old would rationalize things. More importantly this book has helped my children to understand who God is, His love for mankind, and what He wants/desires of and for us. The stories are worded for Children’s understanding. There are no quoted scriptures (in case anyone wants that in their children’s Bible book); there is one scripture at the end of this book. The illustrations are adorable in that simple way, but hold so much depiction of the story itself (see photos of how expressive the characters’ faces are). My children always have lots of questions after each story, and we find ourselves having pretty in-depth discussions after each story. It would have been nice to have the notation...

Trevor Galbraith: Not my favourite. This book takes a lot of liberties with Biblical details. I understand they're trying to use children-friendly language, but it's not as accurate as other Bible storybooks. In the story of Adam and Eve, God says not to eat of the tree of good and evil becaus, in the authors' words, 'it will hurt you." That's really not accurate with Scripture. That's just one of many examples where they add to or change what the Bible actually says.

Sónia Espírito Santo: I simply love this bible. The drawings are so captivating and beautiful, the stories are told in such a simple way, yet they have depth to them. I feel as if the bible is actually talking to me and telling my child self a story. I really love it. I just gifted it to my daughter on her birthday and I think I'm more in love with it than she is lol at least for now. Thank you to the people who created this it's simply amazing. Oh and as an added bonus it arrived much earlier than predicted, so it made it here before my girl's birthday, which was perfection.
