Stephaine FrazerStephaine Frazer: It seems like it's pretty well built. Just got it in April of 2022 so don't know how good it is in sealing out the cold or heat. Our two small dogs, 11 pound and 20 pounds are slowly getting the hang of using it. We have to tie up one flap til they get used to going thru the one flap with ease. I wish there were instructions on how to, if indeed you can, remove one flap til they get the hang of using the door.

Amazon Customer: We are using this door to allow our two cats to exit the house into an enclosed patio area. They both quickly learned how to push the flaps open -
no issues whatsoever. Not the cheapest product on the market by far, but I think the extra cost is worth it. Seems to be a much better built product than some of the others that I looked at. Very robust injection moulded housings, and real solid steel machined bolts to connect the two halves (others seem to come with flimsy plastic bolts which many reviewers complained about). The flaps seem to close reliably and tightly. We are located in Ontario, Canada, so I will be interested to see how the door performs in the colder weather.

Mike4StlCardsMike4StlCards: I have to say out of my "recent" purchases I absolutely love this door! Ideal Pet Products has outdone the "pet door"'s of the past. In my region (southwest desert-close to las vegas) we can reach triple digits from late April/May to nearly October. Needless to say it is very hot here. I just installed it and will update my review once the summer is over for my overall impressions.

So positives from installation

+ comes with a template for drilling holes and cutting the hole
+ has clear and well written/understandable instructions
+ took me all of an hour start to finish

Cons (see my "things to consider" section for explanation)

- Could have come with an insulation kit for inside the frame
- the door didn't self install (haha jk)

Things to consider while installing

I measured and marked "both" sides of the door with the template so that I could get the straightest alignment for the install. In other words I taped the template to one side of the door then cut and drilled my marks then opened the door taped the template made my marks, cut and drilled the other side. Very simple process really but it helped make for a clean install...

G. SmithG. Smith: I am a contractor and will occasionally be asked to install a doggie door for a customer. I always suggest that they purchase an Ideal "Ruff-Weather" doggie door. (The price here on Amazon is the lowest I have found) I have even installed this product at my own home. This doggie door set is a heavy-duty quality product. It comes with a nice template which is easy to use. I must say however, that when you use the template, sometimes the round screw holes (which have been pre-punched) are sometimes off from the ink circle. If they are off, do not use the pre-punched holes. Rather, put tape on the back of each to hold them in place and use the ink printed holes as your guides.

I also like this product because you are able to purchase a matching "pet door wall kit" to be used when you use it through a wall. It is a real time saver and you can skip the step of having to build one yourself.

A few other tips...If you are going through just a door, then installing this doggie door will be a piece of cake. If you are going through a wall, it will be a challenge. Take your time. Be sure there are no electrical wires which may be in the way of your intended hole. I do this by...
