Nadia: I love to cook and I love seafood, as well. I just received this book today and browsing the pages and looking at the recipes tell me that this is a great cookbook! I've been looking for a cookbook like this and I'm glad I found it! I'm pretty sure this will be my seafood cookbook to go to and will live in our kitchen!

Alex Rose: I first learned about Hank Shaw as I was watching a MeatEater episode and saw him make the Sicilian Hare Stew. I immediately looked into his massive goldmine of a recipe depository on Hunt Gather Cook, bought "Buck, Buck, Moose" and extensively used both. When this book, "Hook, line and Supper" came out, I talked myself into buying this one as well, and I am glad I did. It is a careful, detailed cookbook, with plenty of background information. It is very analytical in style, that's what I love about this and Hank's earlier books: it will tell you _why_ you should follow a certain procedure, what might happen if you don't, and so on. In contrast to other cookbooks that give you a few ingredients and a list of orders to obediently follow, here I get to learn why a certain dish will work out _every time_ as long as it is done the right way. Anyone who tried cooking/grilling fish knows that there are many ways to mess things up. This book is for cooks who are also thinkers, who do not want to leave anything to chance.

evan hughes: Probably Hank's best book to date.
I bought them all. His books are good for non-outdoors people too.
Well written, many excellent colour photo's.
Many interesting recipes plainly explained all sound delicious.
On top of all that you can go to Hank Shaw's Facebook page and ask questions or share information. He will usually answer in person.
Well worth the money.

N. Lusk: If you're new to wild game cooking, there is only one name you need know: Hank Shaw. The man (and his partner, Holly Heyser) leads a life committed to the pursuit of elevated wild game cooking. Gone are the days of recipes that start with canned mushroom soup, thanks to Mr Shaw and Ms Heyser.

Hook Line and Supper is for anyone who wants to elevate their fish cooking game; Crab Rolls will blow your mind and his section on soups alone is enough to keep you warm through the winter months ahead. If you plan to give this as a gift to someone who isn't as adventurous of a cook fear not - the section on grilling fish is approachable for anyone, and Hank's chapter "Pairings and Freestyling" will teach any new cook how to cook without a recipe.

This books is as exceptional as Hank's other 3 books; I cannot recommend them highly enough to anyone who enjoys cooking and eating, or as a gift to a beloved outdoorsperson. Well done Hank and Holly!

adam berkelmans: Hank Shaw does it again with another book that straddles the difficult line between cooking really well at home and "cheffy" food perfectly. The advice is straightforward and categorized by style of fish rather than each individual variety. This makes this book way more universal than many other books I've purchased that only deal with seafood from Britain or Australia for example (useless to me in Canada), and allows the home cook to easily cook any number of different fish with the same recipe. The photography is excellent and the writing is Hank's usual no-nonsense, page turning prose. Highly recommend!

Mr. JamesMr. James: Even if you don’t enjoy seafood, you would enjoy this book. The amazing photographs and illustrations walk even a novice chef through what might otherwise be considered a daunting process. The history and background of the various fish, processes, and dishes take this book to a whole new level.

Hank does an amazing job explaining every nuance of how to breakdown fresh caught fish and even how to locate and evaluate fish at your local market. His recipes are easy to follow with some unique ingredients, and also have suggested alternate ingredients that most of us have in our pantry. I’ve been an avid hunter for years and have relied on Hank’s books to provide me with new ideas to innovate my dinner table.

I own almost all of the other cook books that Hank has authored. This book itself is a hefty hard bound masterpiece in the same dimensions of all his other books. They fit nicely on the shelf in my bar! Heck, if you are a true hunter/angler, you should own them all! I have purchased multiple copies of each as gifts for my pals and they have never been disappointed.

You will not be disappointed with this book!
