ALoOF: Great backpack that is well designed and made. Lots of room and the separate compartment for sleeping bag/etc below is nice. The only two things I would change is making the built-in rain fly the same color as the pack…it is a very bright yellow which is a big contrast to a black backpack. The second thing would be zippers up and down the sides of the main bag cavity. As is, if you need something at the bottom, you will have to remove the items above it to get it, which wouldn’t be as necessary with side zippers. But yeah, very much worth the price for what it is!

blind guy: This is the 85L explorer. I also own the 65l and 45l. My kids have the smaller ones. The quality of these bags is just awesome. I have had the 65l for 2 years and beat the crap out of it and it shows no wear at all. This monster 85 is replacing it since my teenager wants the 65l now. It is unreal how much stuff you can pile into. It has alot of storage could hold really big sleeping bag. I have a 1.5" foam pad and a 3 season bag stuffed in that compartment. The adjustment on all of these bags is straightforward and easy. I loaded this bag up to 50 pounds and it is comfortable. If you set the bag up right to where the weight is on your hips properly you will stand straight up and have most of the weight on your hips. The bag is not too hot to wear. Asgoes for all of them. The angled water bottle holders are a nice upgrade from my older one for sure and I really like the hip strap bags too. I was able to put my iPhone 14 pro easily. This bag is better than my other for sure and that is saying alot. If you need a great hiking pack go with Teton for sure.

SailracerSailracer: Teton Sports Explorer 85L
THE GOOD
*Price
*Lots of Pockets
*Quality
*Decent Comfort (when packed with heavier weight lower down)
*85L is the right size for my needs
*Included rain cover
THE BAD
*Sweat Buildup where the pads touch your back
*Mesh pockets not very easy to get Nalgene bottle into while on the move
*Could use more height adjustment on the shoulder straps
*Not much color choice on the 85L size
CONCLUSION
I highly recommend this pack. While there are a few things that could use improvement, on the whole, I don't think there is a better combo of price/features/performance out there. Read on for details.
I thought pockets on packs had gone extinct. Thank you Teton Sports for continuing to make a backpack with external pockets for keeping me organized and keeping my important gear easily at hand instead of having to dig into the middle of the pack to find my raincoat/toilet paper/map/battery/flashlight/camera/water filter/etc./etc.! ALL of the major outdoor gear makers are moving towards packs that have 1 big compartment and that's it. Or maybe they have one token pocket in the lid. Like they think we are all...

Amazon Customer: I used the pack once for a short overnight pack trip. It holds lots and carried quiet well. I’m 5’10 and it fit me nicely between the M and L setting for the torso. I had it loaded to 35 pounds and it felt very comfortable. I would recommend this pack to anyone not wanting to break the bank.

Chris Wells: This is the second one of these I have bought. The first was delivered with a damaged hipbelt and returned. This one was also delivered with a damaged hipbelt.
It seems like this one is a newer model. It claims to have solved the common complaint that the water bottle pockets are hard to access by making them angled. It has not. And they are not. All other changes are actually for the worse.
The lid is now removable. But if you remove it there is nothing but a drawstring to keep your gear safe and secure. And, lid on or off, it leaves two very long straps hanging between your back and the pack. Speaking of the lid, it is now smaller with a shorter zip. That means a couple of items I like to keep in it for easy access no longer fit.
The padding on the back, hipbelt and straps seems thinner and less durable. The buckles also feel less robust. And the water bottle pockets and the pocket on the front went from a standard mesh to what feels like womens stockings.
The torso length adjustment feels wonky and is not straight or centered. And it didn't come with the straps to secure something to the lid. But I don't know if these last two are across the board or...

Han Luke Peng Chen: The Teton Sports Explorer 4000 is one of the better buys I have ever purchased.
Be forewarned, this is a detailed review of the backpack, so use the search function if you're looking for specific review elements.
For reference of this review, I purchased the product in early-April 2020 and have used it almost daily for my day-hiking use. Note: order of the following is random and does not indicate importance.
1) Inner compartment - The inside diameter of the main compartment is just a tad narrow, but the overall space and multiple pockets that are distributed throughout the bag are awesome. There is AMPLE space for the entirety of the bag, so I am very pleased about this.
2) Sleeping bag compartment - Some reviewers have mentioned that the bottom sleeping bag compartment was too small to fit their sleeping bags. I use a Hyke&Byke Eolus 0 degree down sleeping bag and this fit perfectly fine with just a bit of extra space remaining (the bag compresses to about 10.5x8, for reference). The other reviewers who stated it didn't fit did not really specify what bags they were trying to store, but I imaging the bulkier quilts and some of the synthetic bags...

S.L.: Used this backpack for several canoe trips over the past year without any complaints. Although it isn't waterproof, I got around this problem by a combination of using the included rain covering and using dry bags for some items. Enough space for several day long trips, and was reasonably comfortable during the portages. Have not used it yet for longer hiking trips (e.g. backpacking)
