MN: Finally a book that makes sence of childrens behaviours, that professionals have been advising in the past parenting statagies that did not sit well with any loving parent. This is a book that is giving parents an effective way to parent, which we all know will work as it is based on 'LOVE'
Once read you will not be able to help yourself to order your next copy as there is a Vol 2

Wendy K. Harris: We have adopted 4 "Hurt" children now ages 5, 7, 8 & 10. All with attachment issues. For the last 4 1/2 years our life has been anything but calm. They were all drug exposed and very traumatized when we got them. They all have many diagnosis`s and I haven't been able to see a very promising future for them. We also adopted a 29 week premature drug exposed baby who is now 3 yrs old who doesn't have the attachment issues but definitely had a traumatic birth.

I have read so many books trying to find answer`s and tried everything I read about or could think of to calm our home down and try to make a connection with our children. Nothing has worked or made me feel like there is hope in our future up until now. I have had many, many dark day's of wondering just what we have gotten ourselves into and wondering if we will survive this. I have had to fight every step of the way to find the help we need. My 10 year old daughter's therapist told me about this book after getting so tired off the lying, stealing and hoarding. I have just never fully understood what they are going through or why they do the things they do until now. I just finished volume 1 and am starting volume 2....

Miss Moneypenny: If you have adopted any child or are thinking of adopting a child this book is one you should read. Read the book The Primal Wound by Nancy Verrier first then read this straight after so you know there is hope. I adopted my sisters children after she died and I could not understand the behaviour, I have went through years of blaming myself trying every parenting programme I could find, having people tell me I was not strict enough, I was to soft, I felt to sorry for the children etc. I have just finished these 2 books and now I understand so much better, why It seems to be a constant battle of wills in my home. I hope now with this understanding that I can change things, in fact things have improved just because my attitude has changed, I can't recommend this book enough if you want to understand the Adopted Child, whatever your circumstances.

Rita L: Thank you so much to Heather and team for writing this book. For so long I thought I was the only adoptive mother with such frustration with my child.

I was raised with Love and Logic - natural consequences which worked GREAT for me. Imagine my frustration when my lovely new daughter (adopted at age 10) had her behaviors get worse and worse for almost two years. Finally a therapist recommended this book and it has changed my life. We also went to the the parenting one-day event offered by Heather with free admission if you own the book. We have since attended many online programs as well.

I was skeptical of MANY things at first, especially the idea that the child is triggering my own trauma, since I had a happy childhood. Honestly the biggest thing that overcame my skepticism was meeting Heather in person and seeing her loving heart for parents and children in these circumstances. Now I see that the specifics are not as important as the overall theme and that the message is simple: love heals where fear has hurt. And life lessons can not be learned when a child is in that place of fight-or-flight fear. It is amazing how the brain chemistry of all of this works and...

KathyBoBathy: I am the mother of five biological sons and 4 adopted children who are all grown except my youngest who is 14. I fostered for 12 years. This book should be a text for all prospective adoptive parents and all social workers. Children with early trauma (during the first three years of life), no matter the reason, suffer from a constellation of developmental and behavioral challenges. They may look normal, they may have normal intelligence on testing, but as they mature, the gaps in their thinking emerge. Attachment is a huge factor in development of the brain and emotions. Any kind of abuse or neglect, separations, trauma due to tragedy, illnesses, alcoholism and drug use by parents, mental illness of parents - all of these interrupt development in invisible ways. However, behavior will tell the story.

Children who suffer these early insults often exhibit similar behaviors and learning patterns. They seem to fail to take correction, instruction, or learn from repeated natural consequences. They live in "survival mode" which is so skillfully described in this book. Children who are coping, who are programmed to survive from such an early age can fail to transition to trusting...
