Some how they missed one hole in one long arms.
I have the ability to drill the hole, now not everyone will.
Other than that it's well built.

Kaz: The product works as needed, but the attachment design is pretty simple and doesn’t quite leave you with a sense of overwhelming confidence in its quality. What I mean is there is only 1 bolt for each J hook connecting it to the roof rack. And it’s not a very big bolt.
Also the instructions aren’t great either. There isn’t much to assemble, but the instructions are just pictures so it’s not clear if the rack attachment needs both a bit and the hand screw piece or if it is an either/or scenario.

A. Nonymous: The media could not be loaded.  I'm pleased with my purchase of two sets of these J-Bar racks so I could carry two kayaks on my Honda Odyssey, one on either side with a canoe in the middle. The J-Bars attached easily to the 78 inch-wide Thule bars I already had mounted to the factory roof rack. Although the canoe fit fine I ended up puting it on another car so I could put two extra bikes on top of the van. We traveled 5 hrs round trip to a mountain lake sometimes at highway speeds with no issues. Some other reviewers said these J-Bars were difficult to assemble and had poor or non-existent instructions. They came with just a piece of paper showing the parts and a diagram of how they fit together, but no step by step narrative. I thought the diagram was easy enough to understand but the "difficult" part was getting the bolt heads through the bottom black plastic part of the mount. The bolt heads are a tight fit in the plastic and the underside of the bolt heads have a square shape that fits into a square shape down inside the mount. I solved this by pushing the bolts in until the heads stopped at the plastic, then screwed on the self-locking nuts finger tight (they screw on a...

B-row: Very easy, very cheap, very usable.
I assume the cheap price on these is split between "assembly needed" and what seems to be mild steel construction (vs aluminum).
Bought 2 (4 uprights) had em together in about 15 minutes with hand tools. The complaints about assembly are confusing. Its handy to have the picture, but its simple. Put tubes into rubber block, put bolts in. It has an exploded diagram and its well more than you need to figure it out. I worry that if someone was really struggling with assembly, they wouldn't have the mental or physical prowess to be on the water, or behind the wheel. Forgiveness given if its the first time one has turned a bolt in their life.

Simple clamp. Just a piece of 1/8-3/16 bar with a jog in it to center it on the cross bar. Plastic knobs moulded around a nut for tightening. I was able to tighten it down on 1" tube but that was about as small as it would get. I also put it on 1-5/8 round tube.. that seemed to be about as big as it would get. Of course, with replacing the carriage bolts it would fit any depth bar up to about 4" wide.

Straps it came with were quite sturdy and had a nice little flap to keep the metal cam buckle...
