SrividyaSrividya: I've watched the movie Apocalypse Now with Marlon Brando, and it's truly one of the best movies I've ever seen. I've also been very curious about what inspired Francis Ford Coppola, and I found out about this book. It is a very fascinating book indeed. I recommend people read this after watching Apocalypse Now.

Face in the rain: Honestly I thought it was a longer book but for what I paid it was an amazing story, also Apocalypse Now is my favorite movie so hell yeah I love the book.

Jess: Review is for this edition, not the novel itself. Buy a different version. This one contains some misspellings and grammatical errors. None of the paragraphs are indented, which I found distracting and removed me from the reading experience to a small degree. The cover looks cheaply made. The image on the front cover is visibly pixelated. Both the spine and back cover are blank, without text, which is rather irritating if you want to be able to find it again in your bookshelves.

Booriv: Not a good copy. Not about the story just the edition. Flimsy with lots of printing errors. Cheaply done. Look elsewhere for a better edition.

Annie: Joseph Conrad wrote Heart of Darkness following his own experiences in Central Africa and was published in late nineteenth century.
It is a novella of extraordinary depth and feeling and like it or hate it, I think it is one of those classics that should be read.
I read it at school and wasn't too impressed (are we ever impressed by what is essential reading) but appreciate in my later years the
incredible talent Conrad had for feeling and description.
The jungle....the river....the ivory hunters and colonists, and the poor indigenous people of that land ...all meshed out in the tightest prose (not a word is wasted) that will have you there..right in the heart of darkness of the African Congo.
The fact that it is still being read and published in many countries speaks for itself.

Frankie0694: A really good read, which was recommended to me by a friend. Quite thought-provoking given one of the many themes is the morality of lying. I enjoyed it very much and would recommend to anyone!

Dalya: I disliked it at first because it's hard to understand due to the great use of complex language and its complex and out of the ordinary story, however, rereading it really allowed me to see how nice and well written it is and the use of language the author uses to explain his message and theme is very nice. It makes you feel like the narrator is talking directly to you, since it is written by a narrator who is listening to the story of "Marlow", the main character of the book. The messages the author displayed helped me understand more about imperialism and racism. However, we are left with a question on whether or not Marlow is racist or not even at the end of the book.

Steven Lohr: This is an excellent piece of entertainment followed by a deep secondary comment on the darkness of Africa. I would suggest the reading of the Defeat of the Congo Arabs in conjunction with this piece of "fiction". And if you really want to stick your head in the discussion read Hugh Thomas' The Slave Trade. I am not going to explain the Heart of Darkness but I can guarantee once you read it you won't forget it. It's inspiration for Apocalypse Now becomes obvious very quickly.
