Barbara E. Towle: Harriet Tubman was an amazing woman and this book tells her story for kids. I've read it to my 9 year old grandson and he was very impressed with Mrs. Tubman. He's been writing about her in his blog assignments for school. There is a whole series of books like this based on the lives of famous Blacks and I was so impressed that I purchased several more in the series.

Lady J: My children read the book and learned a great deal. It’s like History written for children between the ages of 7 and 12. We order a few of these books when schools were closed - during the Corona pandemic as a way to continue their education.

NP: Used this book as a teaching aid especially in view of the times we're living in. Great way to introduce the history of slavery. My kids 12 & 9 love this book series and read it in a few hours. Engaging and easy for them to understand.

Star67: I bought this book to use with my class as part of a class Social Studies topic on the North Atlantic Slave Trade. It was very suitable for the age group (8 years) and they enjoyed it. It brought alive the story of the bravery of Harriet Tubman and was a useful source of historical information about the lives of slaves and the Underground Railroad. I would recommend this book to anyone.

P. Harry: These are "supposed" to be for kids but I discovered this series by accident at Target recently and have been buying them for me, and I'm over 40. I am very ignorant, and not proud of it. Academics was never my forte. I have a problem learning things when they are presented in a dry, boring way. I've always thought learning about history would be much more engaging if you could find out more personal details about a person, know more about their human experience. This book on Harriet Tubman is exactly that, and I truly enjoyed it. I loved the details about her childhood, her marriages, and things like how she got the scar on her forehead. These little books are the perfect size. You can easily throw them in your purse and do a little reading here and there. I can take them into the bathtub with me. They are just enough on a given subject to give you some basic knowledge and interesting details without being too much. I am so happy to see all the different ones available, and plan on buying many more to learn about various things. They are so affordable. I love all the pictures, I love the cartoony covers. Learning does NOT have to be boring!!

Bookbug: Bought this book along with 2 others from the series for my son age 8. He was taken by the story. I started reading it to him and he got so eager he grabbed the book and read ahead. A very satisfying result I think.
Told in a very engaging but unadorned fashion it is a great introduction into the realities of slavery and human rights without shocking the sensibilities of the young. In addition to the actual story there are several 'fact pages' explaining background events and situations or additional personalities and institutions important to the story.
An excellent series in general - we also have Who was Galileo and Who was Isaac Newton - and the quality is consistant. We have already ordered some more. Very recommendable for young readers and for parents who still like to read to their children after the toddler stage.
