Priya Verma: The book is amazing but disappointed with the quality. This price deserves a better quality/condition of the book.

Courtney Mead: I was assigned to read this book for my intro to careers in psych class in my freshman year of college, and while a lot of her advice was very solid, and she provided valuable data to back up her arguments, such as the fact that women less often ask for promotions than men, and therefore are less likely to get them, and so she urged women to ask for promotions more often and provided ways to do so. I also especially loved the parts about how to negotiate a salary, as I feel like this is advice that a lot of people are not taught upfront, especially women. However even at the time but especially now that I am further along my psych path, some of her advice never really sat right with me, I feel like she has an approach to the workplace that instead of embracing your femininity and letting that empower you, to try to suppress parts of your femininity in order to emulate a man in order to be successful in the workplace, which is a deeply problematic message for women who are about to enter the workforce to hear. I also think that in her accounts of her success she is also not taking into account her position of privilege as a white woman. I honestly believe that her message was...

S. Grosse: I read this book a few years ago for my own professional growth. I have recently found myself recommending it to women I mentor, and the partners that encourage and support them. I believe some of the lessons in this book are essential for aspiring female professionals to understand.
Yes, I recognize there has been some criticism suggesting it is “ sexist” to point out there are still some different standards for women and men in the workplace. I would counter in saying: it is just pointing out current facts. And sugar coating or hiding from these unfortunate truths is not going to help anybody.

Maybe one day this book will no longer be needed or be relevant. Let’s hope so. Until then I think it is always good to be cognizant of the reality we are living with.

Jamie Pagé: I expected something really dry and full of theory but it something completely different! This book provides so much knowledge and value and it is not only for graduates! It will be helpful in your personal, as well as in your professional life and you will take so much from this book! Sheryl offers a lot of insight into the struggle of being a woman in today's business world or in the general world, but it is not a feministic book that is full of hate towards men. Instead it is just about you making steps in the right direction to help all the other people and especially women that are coming after you to have a better and more equal life! This book is just amazing!!!

Nessa: As a young woman embarking on her career journey, this book pointed out many things that I needed to look out for. There are things in the workplace that can happen and what are the choices you as a woman can take. This will be a book I will reread throughout my career. It has encouraged me to be more assertive but also provides suggestions on how to counteract some of the negatively that gets affiliated with an outspoken woman. I also like how this book does not get long winded or repetitive like many business books. Honestly, if you want to pursue a full-time career or maybe you just want to decide if you should check this book out. I do not think you will be disappointed.

M. Stewart: I picked this book up after many recommendations, expecting it to read like a "Best of" for women's issues. However, what I got was an amazingly eloquent, but firm talking to about what truly goes on, even in today's supposedly enlightened world. While at times this book feels like a collection of feminist quotes and empowerment, Sheryl Sandberg does such a great job of organizing her points and peppering in her own experiences to drive home her points. There were stories and numbers laid out that I had never even considered. This book opened my eyes and lit a fire under me.

As a woman who considers herself to be somewhat "in the know" on these issues, I learned so much reading this book. However, I think both men and women can enjoy this book. It is not written in a way to lecture or blame, so women don't need to worry about feeling judged and men don't need to worry about a literary torch and pitchfork. It is an honest and open account of what women are facing as they navigate the business world. Or just the world, even. The graduates edition is especially wonderful for those just starting their careers because it includes so much great advice and so many personal...

Catherine Cheng: What drew me to acquiring and reading this book by Sheryl Sandberg you may ask? The main reasons were its focus on adulthood and becoming who you were meant to be and not what others want you to be. In terms of comparing it to similar books on the topic, I can't think of another memoir-focused career book that will provide both inspiration and action succinctly. Sheryl Sandberg knows what she is talking about in her book because it's based largely on her own life experiences, but also incorporates the wisdom from other successful individuals who want to change lives too.

konatalia: I never expected this book to be full of so many examples of real experiences and usefull advice.
I would recommend it to everybody who wants to improve their every day working methods or to become a better manager/leader. The author, Sheryl, sometimes refers to women (or other outsiders, for instance people of other colour) in some situations and how they could handle those properly, but for me this book is written for everybody who would like to enhance their professional und personal relationships and get better at doing their job at every position in a company.
Some of most rememberable advices came with a phrase, that I'll think of for a long time. For example the methaphor about mothern career paths being not a ladder but rather a "jungle gym"; telling the truth ("My manager is bad!"); looking for a mentor ("Excel and you will get a mentor") and many many more.
What was most surprising to me was how humble and honest the author is. I'd expect that a successful and powerful woman would be aroggant or condescending in some kind of way, which there is no trace of in this book of wonderful guidelines.
So read it! You won't regret it!

C. Loneragan: Sheryl talks a lot of sense in this book, but it's not just for women - it's for men as well. There must be a whole lot of young men who have exactly the same issues as women that stop them from reaching their potential in the corporate world. As a middle aged woman, I found this book full of helpful advice and suggestions, and have passed it on to my children and their partners so that they can benefit too.

It's predictably somewhat focussed on the American way of doing business, and big American corporations, but an awful lot is relevant to this side of the pond as well.

I found the final chapters less relevant and helpful - these are the experiences of others (i.e. not Sheryl Sandberg) but well worth buying yourself a copy.

Roselyn Xavier: A really interesting read for working women and this version is perfect for those of us who are just starting out. I had expected that the additional chapters would be written by Sheryl but each one is written by an individual who has played a part or been personally inspired by the main version of the book. Nonetheless, it covers some really useful topics such as how to negotiate your salary and other useful skills. I've read it twice but it's something that I know I'll keep going back to as my career and personal circumstances change as I get older.
