First: Please note, I am a Certified Advanced Canine Nutrition Specialist, Raw Dog Food Nutrition Specialist, Pet Food Nutrition Specialist, and Acute Canine Herbalism Specialist. The below review is my opinion based on my schooling and lifetime experience in raising pups of many breeds.
Please pay attention to the ingredients! I ordered this Venison blend, as well as PURE fromance Rabbit blend. After receiving, I opened the Rabbit blend, and the smell is undeniable. I read over the entire back side and list of ingredients, and noticed concerns. I immediately emailed with the following questions, but I never received a response:
1. I noticed that you add garlic, and your PURE formance Rabbit blend; it smells very garlicy. How much garlic do you actually add?
2. Do you add any preservatives to your foods?
3. What percentage of chickpeas are in the this blend? (Second ingredient)
Here are the problems I see:
1. Ingredients in the allium family are toxic to dogs, as they contain thiosulfate. This family includes Garlic, onions, chives, etc.
a. Like humans taking a garlic supplement everyday, it will build up in their system....

I see a lot of complaints about the look of this dog food, or how “my dog won’t eat it”, blah blah blah…be a little creative with it! Mix in some raw egg or a couple chunks of raw chicken or beef. I sprinkle a little Fresh Pet on top and my dog licks the bowl. This is high quality food.

My grumpy senior dog LOVES this food. I mean he loves all food, but when he hears me preparing his meal he bursts into a happy little dance until I feed him, something he only does for Grandma Lucy's. The food smells delicious even to me, sort of like a mashed potato dish or a shepherd's pie. A few months into feeding him this food I even noticed that he was a little more active than his usual lazy self. This was probably due to the weight loss that resulted from switching his food.
As a little more time went on, I did notice that he continued to lose weight even when I fed him much more than the recommended amount. Toward the beginning of 2015 he was a bit chunky at about 19 lbs and when we visited the vet recently he was only 14.5 lbs. The vet told me that he needed to gain a couple pounds, so for that reason we've switched to a half orijen kibble and half grandma lucy's diet-- that way he can still get super excited during meal time. Even though it wasn't the ideal dog food for us, it's definitely worth a try!
