WILSON: A usefully little book written well & explaines everything ..a degree of common sense is needed if you are to follow this diet ...just remember the reason why u r doing the diet & this little book is really helpfull

Jill Woods: So this is a great basic compact guide to have in your bag if you are shopping or out and about as a guide to help you make healthier food choices.
But sadly it didn't work so well for me. Firstly the health advice in the front is outdated. The book advocates a low-fat diet with avoidance of saturated fats and basing your meals on starchy foods, which the research is now showing us not to be the best way to eat.
Secondly, unlike previous diet guide books I've bought, other than covering fruit, veg, and meat the book does not include many basic ingredients, so if you are doing a lot of cooking from scratch very few of your pantry ingredients are covered by the book. It talks about loaves of bread but not the constituent parts of a loaf. Equally, it talks about muffins and cakes but not the ingredients that you would use to make them like all of the different flours now on the market or the different sources of fats or sugar.
As another example, the milk section covers dairy & soy but not the range of other alternative kinds of milk now on the market.
So if you eat lots of processed foods this book is great but if you are a good home cook you'll need to get a...

IckyBooBah: The book is extremely handy for those of us that are monitoring our glucose level, but I didn't appreciate the way the book seemed to have been "tossed" in the Amazon envelope. They no longer put plastic over books anymore to keep it "fresh"?
