A. W.: I have a Bosch dishwasher and it doesn't have a heating/drying element like most brands do, which was my first mistake when I purchased the miserable thing. It doesn't dry out in there at all, and if I don't open it as soon as its done things start to get skunky immediately. Was using vinegar rinses often but even that wasn't working. After using this product I noticed a huge difference immediately in the smell - it smelled like a clean dishwasher! However, it only stayed that way for a few days. I ordered a lot because I fear I will be using it a lot, probably once every 2 weeks, but I think if I had a regular dishwasher that actually dried out I wouldn't need to.

SAY: I didn't realize it was a one-time use item. My dishwasher picks up a smell after use and after the door has been open for several minutes and I haven't been able to figure out the cause. Leaving a cup of vinegar in the dishwasher and running it with just that didn't help, so I tried this product. It was simple to use -- open it up and place it upside-down in the utensil rack and run a full wash. It was completely empty when the washer was done so that was a good sign that it was drawn out and the dishwasher was clean. I'm sure this is a decent product but it doesn't work in every situation and note that it also says on the bottle that a second application may be necessary. Given the cost, I'll try some alternatives.

Tom: I like to use this every three months to give the inside of the dishwasher a good cleaning. Works very well. Note that it won't get rid of ALL the gunk (like the mold you might see at the front, near the bottom of the door), but it does what it's supposed to.

P.S. Don't forget that there is one other piece inside your dishwasher that MUST be kept clean: the filter. Mine (in a Maytag) is a round plastic mesh filter that sits under the spray arms. Hot water comes through that mesh -- and a lot of junk gets caught up in it. Not long ago, my washer was working terribly. Dishes on the top rack weren't getting washed. The reason was that the mesh filter was so covered in gunk (food particles, pieces of cellophane, etc.) that the hot water could barely get through. Once I learned how to remove it and clean it, my washer was good as new. I used a repairman the first time, but now I know how to do it myself.
