Ashlyn Osborne: Love the book, but it was an older print, then the cover art, which is actually kind of cool because it’s a older print.

Holly AmericanHorse: This book has my heart reeling. Listening to David’s heart has convicted my own heart in so many ways. I love this book so much and it’s definitely a book you need to read.

Preppermama: I really enjoyed this book a out Saul, David and Absalom. 3 kings. Their interactions as each generation became King of Israel.
Book was slightly hard to read as the author used this as a play to tell the story,, and their were "interruptions " to the chapters . The author interjected his thoughts. This was ok, but hard to read and I'd have to go back a couple pages to read over again to make sure I was following along alright. I think anyone would enjoy this book and I highly recommend it.

Kenton Rustulka: I highly recommend this book for all Leaders and Leadership Teams. I have read it several times and it gets better with each time I read it. Which one am I? Saul, Absalom, or David?

Mark Meynell: I read this book far too quickly. But that was because it is so beautifully written and engaging that I couldn't put it down. But I suspect this is going to be one of those books to which I will return with regularity.
There is an elusive quality to the writing that intrigues and provokes but always points the reader to the profound reality of how God works consistently through weakness and brokenness in polar contrast to the way the world does leadership. David the shepherd boy is the model of the man who is broken and crushed by his specific calling from Heaven. But it is precisely what made him so used.
But his model is rarely followed. Instead, even in the church, leaders tend to ape Saul and David's usurping son, Absalom. They are far more common. And as this book suggests, it's very often those who seek to lead in broken humility (which is the Lord's way, the Via Dolorosa) that get crushed and hurt the most by today's Sauls and Absaloms.
So for those who find themselves broken and crushed, this is a book of such balm and comfort, despite the often agonising hardships of God's calling. This is a book of realism. But it redeems the pain and honour the...

Jeff Goins: I was meeting a friend for breakfast early one Friday morning, before we started our last day of work for the week. I brought in a book that had been recommended to me by a friend on the off-chance that I'd get a few minutes to read a couple pages before cracking open my laptop.
After a carafe of gourmet coffee, fully digesting a couple crepes, and bidding farewell to my friend, I picked up A Tale of Three Kings. It was a short book (no more than 100 pages) with some cheesy artwork on the cover. It seemed a harmless way to spend fifteen minutes before the busyness of life swept me away for the next eight hours. That was around 8:45 am.
Around 11 am, I finished the last page of the book, my heart beating rapidly with conviction and my eyes red from the tears that poured down my cheeks. The subtitle "A study in brokenness" was right on.
The three kings described in this little parable (which has been turned into a play by many churches and acting troupes to date) are the stories of Saul, David, and Absalom. Each man has his chance at kingship, that is, to lord and steward a group of people under his authority. If you know the biblical accounts of these three...
