Robin: I have a little red convertible sports car and wanted a hat to protect my skin from the AZ sun. This fit my needs. The tie keeps it from coming off in the wind, well constructed and the red color has not faded in the sun. The coverage is great and light enough to not be hot on my head. The red color even matched the color of my sports car. Highly recommend

Dakota papa: It's comfortable, all cotton, and the chin string seems to be firmly attached. The tightening doohickie on the chin string is secure and easy to use. Those were the main criteria when I bought it and it is quite satisfactory on all those counts. My only complaint about it is that the brim is too floppy. It would do a better job of sun and rain protection if the brim were stiff enough to stay closer to the horizontal. It tends to droop a bit. This may be an inevitable tradeoff for having a cotton hat and soft beefy material which are what make it comfortable.

Being cotton, it probably would not be the best hat in a heavy or steady rain as it would probably hold enough water to wring out.

Chicot: Got it, it's as expected, though, to be honest, a bit "floppier" than I had hoped for. I own a couple "Propper" boonie hats, and they tend to hold their shape, even in the rain... this one is quite floppy in the brim, and I have taken to wearing the sides "snapped up" to solve the issue.

I bought this for wearing during hunting season, hoping for a sun hat that was also highly visible. It does have good visibility, but it's use as a "sun hat" is hampered by the fact that when worn "unsnapped" it hangs in my sightline.

Further, the cord pulled out on one side of that hat within the first hour of wear. I just removed it entirely after that.

All in all? It's a fair to middlin' purchase. The colour is what wanted, but the quality is a bit less than I had hoped.

As I said in the headline, the hat is Thick Enough to Keep the Rain Out and Wide Enough for Sun Protection.

Despite the floppiness of the brim, I can get it to how I want it when dry: not sure that will be the case if it rains, but the material will certainly keep the rain out.

I would recommend this hat.

The chin strap is an essential inclusion (in case the wind catches the hat and tries to lift it off your head).
