Garmin STRIKER Plus 4cv Fishfinder Bundle with GT20-TM Transducer and Protective Cover

brew: I've only taken it out once so I can't even give a thorough review. Price and portability is nice for my john boat. But was hoping I could use the transducer through the hull unlike some reviews mention. Could be me or the boat I guess. Putting the transducer into the water I also didn't mark any fish ( far as I know the depth was reading correctly). Not sure if that's my fault, the lakes fault, or what. 4 stars at this time and I rated it this high based on price and portability. It also seems pretty straight forward to use, even though I don't know absolutely all the bells and whistles. There are alot of helpful YouTube videos out there as well. I'll have to come to a better conclusion when I take it out a few times.

J-M: When I was researching which fishing kayaks to buy I notice that the Garmin Stricker 4 was in a majority of the stock advertising photos among most of the popular manufacturers. The same was noticed from pictures left by reviewers of the people who bought these same kayaks. I decided to go with the Old Town Top Water 107 and then I focus my attention on which fish finder I should purchase even though the seed had already been planted. I researched the competition and read the reviews and everything kept bringing me back to the Stricker 4 model so that’s what I bought. Now that I’ve got it installed and I’ve used a couple times I can say I’m completely satisfied with my selection. Even though I’m still learning how to use it and understand the readout, it’s still simple enough to assist me land the big one though that’s yet to happen. The overall size is a perfect fit for my smaller kayak and the screen visibility is easily readable even while standing. Comes with everything you’ll need to mount. Very satisfied and I would recommend to other kayakers

Dave: I think this is a perfect size for a kayak. I like most things about it. I only thing I don't like is that you it has no way of viewing the quick draw maps or downloading them to a pc or laptop. If it had a card insert it would be perfect. The quick draw map works but I find myself using my phone more with Navonics maps. Other than that it's worked fine.

Update1- I have used for last part of summer, fall and winter now. This still works pretty good. Still not a fan of the quickdraw map for bigger lakes that have navonics already mapped. But for small lakes and rivers that are not mapped works ok. There is no way to download your mapped to a PC so it's really a pretty basic finder.
Screen size has been fine in my kayak. Might be too small for a boat.

Problems- I have had issues with the transducer plug. Even when connected it tells me it's not. My fix has been to leave it plugged in but remove the power to the finder at the battery when Im done. I keep my kayak in my garage so weather is not an issue.

StarPathOne: I've used the CV4 several trips now and it seems to do most things adequately. Not the best in any category but it will get the job done. It takes a couple of trips to dial in the best settings for your particular spot but once you learn the menu its fairly quick to make changes. I have noticed some glitchy patterns, however.

PROS: Lightweight, compact, fairly accurate, energy-efficient, easy install, decent resolution, good waterproof rating

CONS: Sometimes the overlay numbers (like your current speed) appear one moment, disappear after changing screens, then back on again. I've also noticed it gets a weird amount of surface distortion and cuts out, then restarts reading properly again. Settings like screen brightness don't seem to hold every time. No additional maps to load (but at this price point I guess that's what you sacrifice).

So, al in all, it's not a bad fishfinder. Interested to see how it will do in saltwater and in deeper areas. I will try to update if any changes.

Bt: After doing some research I decided to go with the Striker Plus 4cv based on its size, features/capability, and price. Shipped fast and seems to be what I wanted in a fish finder for my kayak. Did a quick test to make sure it would power up and everything appears to work. I also liked the fact that this finder came with the screen cover that others are not offering as a package deal.

EDIT-update: I used this depth finder through the summer of 2018 in my sit on top kayak and found it to be a great addition. I made a battery box with a 12v plug in to power it. I love the gps function, waypoint markers and the different scales that can be set up. I had very little issues viewing the screen in direct sun but I have it mounted on a ram mount just in front of me. I attached the transducer inside the hul with duct seal (watch YouTube videos on how to do this) and it worked flawlessly. This is a budget friendly depth finder with many bells and whistles that makes it a great buy in my opinion.
