Michele: Veramente ottimo GPS.

John M: I personally love this GPS but before I go on with the review I wanted to say the main function of this device for me is for Geocaching.

So after a ton of research I decided to select this GPS and I am very glad I did. The main key features that really sold me:

1) The ability to Geocache - This was the main reason we wanted a handheld GPS unit, so it goes without saying this was a must. The incorporation of Geocaching was done near perfectly. The Oregon 650 can hold 4 million cache locations (so all of them for the foreseeable future). It allows you to view Geocaches in a list or on the map. You can filter the list and map for custom searches of caches which allows you to search/filter for type (traditional, event, virtual, webcam, etc), the size (micro, small, regular, large, other, and not defined), difficulty, terrain, and by status (found, not found, or not attempted). You can also save filter lists so you can easily select them to save time. Also one of the GREAT features is that you can actually do a search for the cache name which has come VERY handy for me when doing Geotrails. So I am very happy with how Garmin allows me to sort, filter,...

Mike C: It's a nice GPS and served most of my needs on my recent vacation hiking out west. The display uses a LOT of battery power, so you have to use it sparingly. I was lucky to get 6 hours of hiking on a single charge. While I expected the unit to have some signal problems with dense forest, I was surprised to find problems even in moderate forest. And when it has problems with weak signals, the "distance traveled" becomes unusable because of constant position flicker, causing the unit to think you've covered a lot more ground than you actually have. I've had this problem with other Garmin units before, and I had hoped they would have resolved this problem by now.

Roberto Ramirez: I will update this review every now and then...

2013-07-17: Got this device in July 2013. I promised myself that I would be using the eTrex 30 in the foreseeable future until there were new devices with access to the Galileo or COMPASS constellations that are being deployed. So while the eTrex 30 supported GPS and GLONASS, and there isn't much of an upgrade on that matter when using the Oregon 650, I still went for it after reading in a couple of blogs all of the new features.

First of all, I was fed up with the rocker switch of the eTrex 30 and Vista HCx I also previously had, I find it difficult to believe that Garmin doesn't find useful to add a button lock feature like a cell phone touchscreen lock to those devices, almost every time I put those in a backpack I will find a weird thing happening when retrieving them back, sometimes even the device was frozen. Not anymore! As a touchscreen device, the screen lock is easily accessible from a single tap on the power button.

Booting is very fast, around 10 to 15 seconds, compared to a couple of minutes on the eTrex 30 with the same loaded maps.

The quality of the pictures taken by the...
