Garmin Approach S12 Golf GPS Watch - Keep Track of Your Game in Style with the Black Edition

MB 2.0: Visibility outdoors was my 1st concern as I'm farsighted and don't wear glasses while playing golf. Size was my 2nd concern and battery life was 3rd. I didn't need all the bells & whistles offered by the higher priced watches. I have worn it over a week, played golf once and still have not had to charge it. I would suggest putting on a screen protector.

Schermetz: My husband has been using the Garmin Approach S12 for four rounds on our 18 hole golf course where the average round takes about 4 hours. The battery is still at least 60% full! This Garmin watch is a simple version, but for someone that wants a long lasting battery and reliable distance control to the front, middle and back of a green, and is not interested in frills, this is the right watch!

Richard Kay (Chicago, Il USA)): I'm 67 years old. I want a simple, reliable, accurate, look down and read the yards in big numbers, on a sunny day. I previously owned a S10 which did the same thing but the S12 does a bit more. I can add the CT10 sensors to the S12. I can pair it to my phone to look at stats afterwards. I can look at where the traps and water hazards are by a quick push of a button. It pairs quickly to the outerspace GPS machine floating around the earth. A black and white number screen, not color. I dont need color - I know what color the green is. I also like the price. I tried the S62 and didnt have the patience to remember what buttons to push to see info. All I need to know is how far the hole is and how far a hazard is. The S12 does it.

Amazon Customer: The battery lifetime is incredibly long. It's very lightweight, with a very comfortable wristband. It has the basic functionality, which is all I want: distance to green and to layups. There are other extras that I don't use.

Rick Jones: I've wanted a GPS golf watch for a long time. I settled on this one for three reasons. First, two guys I regularly play with have one and both love theirs. Secondly, my golf game doesn’t require a more expensive model that provides an endless list of detailed information. Third, the watch finally came back on sale for $50 off. It seems to periodically. I’ve used it twice. Here's my reaction so far:

Liked:
* Rather than hoping that someone in my foursome will have a GPS, now I can just glance down at my wrist. So convenient.

* I like the multiple-face display configurations. I have mine set so the numbers showing the distance to the middle of the green are extra large, which makes the number I care about easy to see, even in bright sunlight.

* Super comfortable. Normally, I hate wearing watches but this one is ultra-lightweight and didn’t bother me a bit.

* I’m no techie but downloading the app and pairing the watch to my I phone 13 was a breeze.

* This watch provides far more information than my golf game requires but it’s nice to know it’s there if I start getting better.

* No complaints about battery life. I still had...

Andrew L (FL): I had been using a hand held range finder until one day I played with a group of men who all were wearing GPS watches. I looked it up, and purchased this. I also changed out the strap to a velcro loop style.

Pros:
Very light weight.
Accuracy seems consistent with range finder, and it's much easier to get distance by looking at your wrist.
Able to get lay-up distances, and distances to hazards.
Relatively inexpensive.
Good contrast in bright daylight, easy to read.
Stroke entry works well.

Cons:
Fairway and hazard visualization is not as good as the expensive color models.
Too many steps to "measure shot" or "change hole position"
Battery life is as claimed, but it is too short and requires recharge too often.
More steps than one would like to get distances to front and back of hazards.

Other:
Like any GPS watch, it doesn't actually know distance to the hole. My solution is, when in range of the green for the range finder, to compare the "Center of Green" from the watch to an actual range finder "distance to pin", and use the difference for other future shots at pin.
