WendyM: I am a teacher, and this is a brilliant choice, particularly for a smart little person who struggles to read. It has jokes, tongue twisters and fun facts, all with short, concise text and ample blank space and large simple font. The language is age appropriate and is good for shared reading with a child who struggles to read, as the older reader can interject the words that are more challenging. There are longer, scientific and specific proper nouns and other words on each page which would also challenge an able reader. My child is very sharp in so many ways… quick understanding, insightful, deep thinker, but is dyslexic, and has started to avoid reading because of the effort required. This series of books (one for each age) has proven a gold mine as he chooses to read it alone, and willingly reads aloud to try to stump friends and family. “Jokes for ? year Olds” is such a smart way to make a levelled book enticing. My guy is 8, and he rereads the “for 7 Year Olds” regularly alone or aloud and he works through “for 8 Year Olds” with a parent or tutor’s help.
