Sharon joswick: This is my second one. Because they're plastic, and I need to leave them out year long for rain when snow melts Etc to keep my work chips from washing away, they do rip and tear within a year and have to be replaced. Hot sun and freezing cold weather does not allow plastic to hold up for very long, one season maybe two seasons if you don't mind holding it down with rocks and looking at split seams, which is what I did. But it does do the job

C141/C17 Load:
2/27/22 - Update - the product has been working as advertised with one concern. If you have leaves or other debris coming down through your drain pipe it will quickly collect and clog the small drain holes in the body of the sleeve. You can "unroll" the unit and remove the slide on clip at the end to empty the sleeve out. This drain hole is relatively small and doesn't allow for efficient drainage (especially with leaves) so I wound up removing the sleeve and using a hose to wash the sleeve out. This worked fine. Obviously I had to reattach the sleeve with new tie wraps (not an issue) and if I only have to do this a couple of times a year I'll be fine with the product. I will update this review in 6 months.
Initial Review - First, the product works as described, i.e., extends to drain the water away and retracts when empty. My issues are 1) my drains are approx. 4" x 3" and I couldn't use the foam adhesive provide for the installation. Not an issue, I just tie wrapped the extender to the drain. 2) the tie wraps they provide are very low quality. You need to provide your own and I'd recommend using two bands of tie wraps to ensure a secure...

Marie McWhirter: In heavy rain the plastic drain worked well to disperse water from the upper roof downspout to prevent an over flow of the gutter on the lower roof. Was easy to install and appears to be retracting properly after a rain. Could only find these retractable drains in green until I found this one on amazon to match my brown shingles.

Surfbored: Easy to attach to my downspout, but it stays rolled up until it rains hard, then the force of the water unrolls it. The holes were definitely not big enough to handle the Iowa downpours that we get, so I had to make slits between some of the holes, otherwise it spurts back up around where it’s attached. All in all, it’s a good temporary solution, but not good for long term..

Mike: The force required to roll this drain out requires more than a 4 foot standing column of water in your vertical down pipe. As soon as the water level goes below that, it rolls back-up. Thus most of the water leaks out around the collar over time, draining at the base of the down pipe exactly where you want to avoid. I took the springs out and re-arched them, which helps, but by the time you get them so it rolls out properly, with a perhaps a few quarts of water, it does not readily roll-up when dry. I kick mine after a rain, and it rolls-up and I figure that is about the happiest compromise I'm going to get. Frost king should have measured the force required to extend this and calculated the weight of water in a down pipe required to roll it out. They must not have, or at least not have for a standard 2X3 inch home down-spout. Do not buy unless you are very handy at modifications.

John M: During rain water comes from the downspout and you’d think that it’ll unroll this product. Don’t count on it. If I’m expecting rain I must roll out the tube and place a weight at the end so it won’t roll up. I bought 2 of them and they both do the same thing. Water will back up the downspout. Terrible product. Note I’m unable to return because original packaging is gone.
