Mikey Boom Boom: A good quality basic cable that works so far. I'm only 2 weeks in. Picture quality is great. Good price. Give it a try if you're looking for something that gets the job done without overspending.

quang le: Got this for my 2014 macbook air, to use with my projector. When I first plugged it in, it did not work. Plugged it in and unplugged, and registered on my macbook (screen aspect ratio changed), but nothing on my projector.
Anyways, called and got customer service. They offered me a refund even though Amazon would not, but the person didn't know how to give me the refund since i got it from amazon. She said she would call me back after discussing with her manager (I live in Toronto, they are in Minnesota). She actually called me back a few hours later. But at that time, I had tried it in my projector again and it worked. Worked perfectly. Not sure why it didn't to being with, but the company was willing to work something out to help me with a refund, even though I couldn't do it through amazon. No need as this works like a charm. I have a thunderbolt slot, not a mini DP slot, but it works just as well.

Kimberlin Starnino: This is the 2nd time I am buying this exact product over the past couple of years. The first time I bought it, it didn’t work, so the seller sent me a new one. The one they sent me has been working perfectly for a couple of years. I am happy with this product, but when it breaks, the sound will go on and off every once in a while. That’s why I’m buying a new one. My old one was doing that. Overall, I am happy with this product, and I would definitely recommend. The picture and sound quality is really good.

Analein: So this review is a long time coming. And the reason for that is that we initially purchased the cord in 2013 (December of 2013 to be exact) and only in this year, 2020 (it is currently April 15th, 2020 as I am writing this review), did the cord finally crap out on us and we needed to buy another one. 7 years of continuous use across MacBooks of different models and years, all with functional video AND audio (with one exception as noted).

All of these machines were being connected to an LG 42CS560 TV.

The first MacBook we used this cord with was a 2009 White Unibody MacBook, 13". The cord worked GREAT. Good picture, and the sound came through crystal clear. This machine was (and still is) running OSx Snow Leopard.

I then transitioned to a slightly newer machine and got a 15" 2010 MacBook Pro (non-retina display). The cord continued to work the absolute best--picture and sound both clear. This MacBook is currently running OSx High Sierra.

I finally transitioned to a slightly newer machine too, and got a 13" 2010 MacBook Air. To be clear, all of my other Mac machines still work (they're in storage right now) and I still used the cord with them while also...

nina: I had to buy this cable repeatedly because it never lasts!!!! I’ve got 3 so far. First one only last about a month, it started off like that my TV couldn’t detect the signal immediately and I had to put this in/out to my MacBook several times to finally get it right. Then there was a short period of time that I had to use a bump to stabilize the cable to keep the right angle to mini DisplayPort because the connection never stayed otherwise. And one day it just stopped working.
The 2nd one only last 2 weeks, I was furious at that point because I gave it a benefit of doubt and bought it again, but it didn’t even last any longer than last time!
The 3rd one, I got this accidentally because this company sent me a wrong length and since the one I ordered stopped working right away, I started using the 3rd one. Now, I’m being extra careful, when I insert this to my MacBook, I don’t wiggle it and the same rule applies when I remove it. And guess what, this cable has started acting fidgety. It’s just matter of time till this one becomes useless.
I’m not gonna spend money on this cheaply made piece of garbage.
It’s a reasonable pricing product, but I don’t...

Lynick: I works fine but I had to search around for additional instructions on how to set it up on the tvs. You only need to do this once for each tv that you use. These are instructions I found online.

DisplayPort to HDMI Sound is actually set up by using the MIDI setup utility found in :

Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup.
If you purchased an iWires cable direct from Apple the instructions are in the printed booklet that comes in the packaging. Most people don't read this as it's normally the case that when you plug a cable in to anything it just works (VCR, TiVo, Xbox, video camera etc). In this instance Apple are failing to live up to their catch-phrase as final setup is NOT intuitive; "it just DOESN'T work".

Video
System Preferences > Displays. There are 3 tabs in the window; Displays, Arrangement and Color. Be sure you are on the Displays tab. Bottom left of the window tick "Show displays in menu bar" and then bottom right click "Detect Displays".

Now click on the tab named Arrangement. Bottom left of the window tick "Mirror Displays".
You should now only see 2 tabs, Display and Color. Be sure you are on the Displays tab. Select...

Amanda: This cable is a more cost efficient way to plug your MacBook into your TV than spending nearly $100 on an Apple TV. The connection limitations are what you're going to be sacrificing. I use my cable pretty much exclusively to stream movies onto my TV. When I first purchased I went with the 6 feet cable, but I wish I had gone with the 15 feet in hindsight. It would be nice to have my computer closer to me as a movie plays so I could get settled in & then just click play. Just a minor annoyance of mine. Set up in System Preferences for sound is typically a one time thing, as it will recognize the next time you plug it in. I don't know if this is a flaw of the cord, or my computer/TV, but sometimes the audio will not work at all. Overall it does the job, and is a great thing to have around.

Bryst: Needed this cable after I flashed my Gigabyte 7950 to F43 bios which is known to make HDMI outputs nonfunctional. Works connecting my PC to my Denon receiver for audio playback and another for hooking a 32" LCD Tv to my PC for emulation.

From looking at it in the bag, it appeared that the HDMI plug was made of quality rubberized plastic. But its just cheap hard plastic, and doesnt have rounded edges like the photo. For 8 bucks though I'm not gonna complain. We'll see how long it lasts.

Tip: Don't smash your PC or the plug into the wall forcing the cable into a 90 degree angle at the plug. This is a great way to put stress on solder point and make the cable break. I suspect this is where some of the "died in 3 days" reviews come from. Give your cables proper space and don't bend them excessively.

JasonKB: Got this for my wife so she can watch streamed video on the big screen. Got picture right away, had to make simple setting in sound out put (to route audio to the HDMI) and it works just fine. No issues with picture or sound.I'm not trying to send 5.1 audio so I can't confirm it that works OK. I'm doing old school stereo "2.0" and it works great for that.

I do wish the cable was longer so we had more options for where to put the MB Air while watching. I'll be looking for and HDMI extension at some point.

Only issue is the Display Port logo is on the wrong side of the plug - it faces down which creates a bit of a hassle when trying to get the cable in the correct orientation - have to remember the has to be flipped. Not a big deal but is a minor PITA.

jw2685452: It's good to have one single cable to connect your Mac directly to your TV, instead of messing with cables and different adaptors at each end.

I think it works fine, though there's one issue. The cable transmits audio as advertized, which apparently not all similar cables do. But when I use it with my MacBook Pro 2012 plugged into my TV and I close the lid on the laptop to enter clamshell mode (there is a bluetooth keyboard and trackpad to keep it awake), although the video continues the audio stops being transmitted (and doesn't come back when I re-open the lid--I have to unplug the cable and switch audio output in system preferences before sound comes back).
