Terry C.Terry C.: Really like this rod. Seems well made and strong. I was setting the drag on my reel and hanged a 45lb weight off it. Held it fine and didn’t even creek. If you ever hanged a 45lb weight off a rod you’ll know how much pressure I’m talking about. I have my reel set at 35lbs at strike and very confident it will be fine. Only thing I had to do was cut off the roller tip and install a proper one. The one that comes with the reel is too low and the line will rub on the rod before the roller tip. I ordered a pac bay .250” tip. Just get a cut off wheel and carefully slice it with touching the rod too much. Once you see the black show stop. Then grab a plier and twist it off. The heat from the grinding will loosen the glue. Sand the tip clean and wipe it down with acetone. Then get some epoxy and glue on the the new tip. Perfect rod now! Shouldn’t have to do this on a brand new rod but for a the price of the rod why not. That or spend hundreds more for something else. I don’t plan on using it often. Just needed to have something for those just in case trips.

Solid, hold the reel nicely, has a perfect stiffness, two parts mate up perfectly, but....
isn't there always a "but"?...

I need to put a bridle in line to put a detachable down plane on/off.
I used the smallest slip ring I could find which would still allow 2 lines and the down-plane clip to enter, and there is not room.
Even a small swivel won't fit.
The end roller (shown) will allow passage, but the next roller won't. The space between the roller and the cage are so close, almost nothing but on line will fit.
And the width of the cage is equally small.

It is all so tight, that even just two lines spliced with a uni knot each will find curious inventive ways to catch on the mechanism.

So whilst it is a fine rod in many respects, the roller mechanisms are designed to be far too restricted.

5 stars in most regards, zero stars for engineering the guides, averages 3.

If you are never going to pass anything thru the guide other than a single line (even a couple hundred pound test mono) then 5 stars.
If you think you need to pass a splice or a swivel or god forbid a split ring, then look elsewhere.
