J. M. Cooper: Not easy to read. Missed many pages out just to get through it

Les Crawley: This book is about the love affair between Donald Trump and the Church- and the longtime struggle of the Church (Primarily Baptist) to get a man into the US Presidency who cared about the Church's values. No abortion- no interracial marriage- in other words, a return to the values of the 1950's. This has also contributed to The Supreme Court becoming much more conservative. Trump became President- and the Church began having more access to US Politics and more input.

President Kennedy was all about separation of Church and State. This is a book that teaches that many of America's recent policies came from those around Trump who believed that the Church should have more control over State policy. If this country is about separation of Church and State, it's NOT HAPPENING NOW!!

Russell Ferrell: This is a well-researched, detailed, and highly recommended book about the Christian Right and its merger with the New Right (or alt-right) in their takeover of the Republican Party. The Christian Right is a religious movement that places money and power above traditional Christian teachings and ethics. The New Right (or Alt-Right) is a newer, more virulent, and extreme version of the old conservatism. Instead of emphasizing free market economics, the New Right emphasizes cultural issues, particularly anti-liberalism, gun rights, white nationalism, and white supremacy. These two groups have combined to drastically alter the face of the Republican Party. Traditional Republicanism no longer exists.
Sarah Posner does an excellent job of tracing out the history and evolution of these two movements and their consolidation and impact on not just the Republican Party but the entire American society. This book should be required reading for anyone concerned about the danger to freedom and democracy that these two groups represent. The real motivational drive for both groups, which are now synonymous with the Republican Party, is power and the conversion of democracy to oligarchy,...

reader: Very topical given recent election and the conspiracy theories whirling around about why and how Trump lost. What this book shows are the levels of cronyism and simply mad thinking that are to be found in and around the Trump White House. He may have lost the election but his devoted base remains.

Mannie Liscum: Though the subtitle of Sarah Posner’s “Unholy” (White Evangelicals Worship at the Altar of Fonakd Trump) is not likely to draw many Trump supporters in to take a chance, he book is a masterpiece delivered with surprisingly little judgement or snideness. The book is much less about President Trump than the subtitle might predict. Instead it really an exploration of the question of ‘why do evangelicals form the core of Trumps most vociferous support base, especially given that he’s a vulgar, thrice-divorced, Bible-illiterate (far from he family-values God-fearing Christian one would expect the evangelical community to embrace)? Posner tells the story of how the evangelical community has become politically active in right-wing conservative Republican politics over the past 4-5 decades, how their social issue passions have come to define their voters, and how the Republican Party has come to reflect, especially with Trumps ascension to the WH, their values. It is the white evangelical voter and their issues that fit so well with the campaign, and now administration policies of Trump, that made this seemingly ‘unholy’ matrimony not actually perfect, but almost...
