Ducky S.: I bought the smaller version of Klimt's masterwork biography since the standard size was too big. This is a hefty little thing! The writing style gets to the main points without droning on, providing extra citations for research on your own time.

With this being the bedside table version, the large paintings on the introduction of each new section are cropped. For instance 'Pallas Athene' and 'Medicine' are cut to focus on the visage of the muse, then on the next page you can see the entire picture....followed by a smaller full portrait of them toward the end of the book's catalogue. Some photographs & artworks are mentioned in paragraphs before their page pops up in the section, but they are referenced when this happens so you can jump ahead to see them. For his longer works, they take up the top of two pages OR in some sections can be unfolded to reveal the entire painting. A cool feature if you ask me 😌.

The large version of the book preserves the reflective gold inlays from Klimt's 'Vienna Secession' vs Küntslerhaus work, this one still has the details and vibrancy though. All in all I still like the small, easier to tote around/pick up and binge read and...

lplynn: Book has been organized into 7 Sections, whose subject-matter is identified only by the often vague title assigned to the Section. Artwork, including any applicable discussions, is often replicated in more than one Section. Though there is an index, identifying where a particular work of art is located, it is often confusing due to how the index is constructed. For example, it "lumps together" paintings and friezes, but lists completed & titled drawings separately; it further includes any & all references, with no distinction between the visual vs narrative. What is missing, in other words, is a simple listing of titled, finished artwork and the (single) page number on which it's visual representation is contained. As for the visual quality of the artwork, it is compellingly immersive.

TimeLine: After a week of waiting, I track the book and it was lost in the mail. I was offered a replacement, I accepted it, and the book arrived the very next day. The book is new and in good condition. Mail does get lost sometimes, but this was by far the smoothest interaction I had to resloved and issue like this.
