lerone: It is a great book to understand a nation's struggle yet does not understand. The importance of understanding the battle is personal is highlighted in this novel.

Jan: I can't get enough of this Black history. I was denied the historical facts of Black suffering as well as all the wonderful things the Black folk are responsible for in building America . What a shame Black aren't honored every single day! I am ashamed of my white race! I will recommend this book to everyone I know. Michael Dyson is a wonderful gifted writer AND person. It has been my honor to read this book.

Lady RKinSaw: I love his mind and master of the English language. He puts it to such elegant use, but still makes it understandable. It is a quick, intense. Interesting read, as he talks of a few of our Black heros that are no longer with us, because of the color of their skin. At my tender age of 81, I am still learning some of my Black history and it brings me to tears to realize what some of my people have had to endure to live here in America, the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave! This book is heartbreaking and informative at the same time.

Richard Thornton, Jr: I started to ignore the debut of this writing; I am so very glad I gave ear and heart to the Holy Spirit when beckoned " This is a "Must Read".
This is not only a historical account of the racial bias and cruelty suffered by Black and people of color, but a concise and detailed account of the attitudes and hatred shown by the European race here in the good ole USA. Not by all, but the number is growing since the unleashing and unveiling the unchecked bigotry of one Donald J. Trump. It prevails to this very day!

Amazon Customer: This book really does a great job to explain how racism works in the USA. The way that the chapters are divided up by people who have been tragically killed is very powerful. Mr. Dyson's usage of works makes reading this book flow like wind in the trees. Anyone who wants to understand why people are so hurt and angry about how black people are continually and currently being treated in the States should definitely take the time and read this phenomenal book.
