pankaj vats: Great Guide! Am looking forward to testing it in the field! in a couple of months, but i do have my hopes high as i used another of their books on a recent holiday of mine.
i love the local maps, and small trinkets of reviews that they provide, which lets to make a fast choice.
nothing beats the convenience of flipping a couple of pages to find all you need to know about even a small locality, and the details!!!! (no travelers blog can match the efficacy of the book)

Trevor Pawson: This quide was a life saver several times on my trip to South Africa, but it is only a starting point. There is so much they couldn't capture (or the book would be huge). Use in combination with the internet. South Africa is the most beautiful place I have ever visited.

stella: I bought Lonely Planet South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland kindle version for a 2 weeks trip in South Africa.
I used it only for the SA part, in KwaZulu-Natal region, in Capetown and in the Wine Region. I usually find Lonely Planet useful mostly for tips on accommodation and restaurants; however, for a wide country like SA and especially for a dynamic city like Capetown, I did not find the guide up-to-date. Many places suggested had closed, while many vibrant new places were not listed in the guide. Furthermore, the prices indicated did not correspond to reality.
I also found the introductions to towns and places not particularly detailed.
All in all, a guide not at the level of other Lonely Planet guides.

JBK: Gave us lots of information about different districts, travel, food, etc. We used it to prepare for our Honeymoon in South Africa and got a ton of information. Used it while there to plan side excursions. Great Reference!

Michael Rodrique: I have been using LP guides for 30+ years. I have bought over 50 of them. I am noticing that the new writers and editors have started steering away from the most enjoyable and unique places that LP guides introduced me to decades ago and has begun leading their readers towards the more expensive well known places. In the LP "South Africa" the perfect example is that LP no longer individually lists or describes the fantastic Bushveld Camps inside Krueger National Park, but instead spends 4+ pages describing the private game reserves around Krueger. I no longer trust these guides to lead me to the uncommon, the unique, the affordable, the places that thrill. I would return this guide if I could as my trust in LP has been shattered.

Ellen M. Rose: This guide book is very useful for my purposes. I'm going to SA soon and it shows the low end of accommodations, etc. as well as the high end.
