Simon P.: This is a great book to learn Japanese while reading (my prefered method). I have the other book by the same author/editor (Japanese Folktales for Language Learners: Bilingual Legends and Fables in Japanese and English) with 22 Japanese stories and I really enjoy it. So I have now 27 great Japanese stories to improve my Japanese.
My only complaint is there is no CD included. I thought otherwise because many (not recent) comments on Amazon state there is a CD included. But the editor thinks that today nobody listens to CDs anymore... But I am not nobody.
Granted, times change and we need now to download the mp3 from the editor website. So I did, and then burnt it on a CD. So I can now listen to it with my favorite CD player while reading these great books. And should I add I am proud to be archaic and that I am not made in the same mold as anybody.

Priyanka T.Priyanka T.: Japanese Stories for Language Learners is an excellent resource. Though it's a little advanced for me at present, with the help of the notes and English text, I can slowly read the stories. Meanwhile, the accompanying CD lets you hear them being read, aiding with aural comprehension and pronunciation. I plan to go through this book once now but then return to it again once my studies advance, so I can attempt to read more without help from the English translation and notes.

KennaKenna: This book was just what I was looking for! If you are a beginner it might be hard to read, but if your up for the challenge I say go for it.. The book has the Japanese text on one page and the next page is the English version for easy comparison. It also has vocabulary words to help with unformular terms, so that helps. There are 5 stories in total, and after each story there are discussion questions to get you thinking about the story. Overall glad to add this book to my collection.

Brenn TimoteoBrenn Timoteo: Es un muy buen material de lectura. Tiene un glosario al final de cada cuento... Pero hay un par de textos que tienen kanjis de uso poco frecuente o usos excepcionales de algunos kanjis que podrían haberse cambiado por los usos más frecuentes. Recomiendo que no le tengan miedo igual, y que hayan estudiado al menos los dos volúmenes de Basic Kanji Book (500 caracteres).

Mike Sealander: This book has five stories, three are longer and two are quite short. I've asked Japanese people about them, and it seems these stories and their authors are well known in Japan. Each story is written in kanji with furigana, and then in English. Each story also has an index of translated words, with detailed explanations. So, it's not just a story and its translation, its a story with a grammar and vocabulary lesson. The CD is a bit amateur. I listen in my car, and the sound only comes out of one speaker. However, I love listening to the CD. I highly recommend this book, especially for advanced beginner Japanese learners.

Anwuar: This is JUST what I needed to keep up with my Japanese after graduating! The pictures are also very beautiful and add a nice touch to the stories. The stories include a lot of kanji but always have pronunciation in hiragana so you can practice, and of course the english translation on the left will help you go back and forth to grasp the full meaning of the Japanese text. HIGHLY recommend for anyone who loves Japanese and wants to continue learning after schooling.
