Annie Orlando: Though I haven't yet used these, I bought them for use on our European Danube River cruise, which is coming up in a few months. My husband didn't think they were necessary so I am sneaking them into my suitcase. I remember back in the day when we and the kids got caught at Disney Epcot with no ponchos, and it poured. Even with the ponchos that we bought at the park, we got quite soaked. We are taking umbrellas as is always recommended on a vacation, but I will feel better if I have these in my belt pack. Boy, will he be surprised if we need them and I have them!
We still have the ponchos from Disney which he has used when we have to drain the pool during a hurricane. At the time we visited Disney, we did not live in Florida, but we have since moved there.
These ponchos came two in a package, and I ordered the white clear ones. They seem very thick and will not get dry, sticky, and crusty. I guess they would be useful for hiking but we are not hikers. Hopefully, we won't have to use them but we are prepared!!!

Cheryl Christie: I bought this for my daughter who's 17, around 5"7' to wear at a taylor swift concert (that was outdoors), due to rainy weather forecast. I'm very glad I did, it kept her clothes dry with the long length and hood.

This was meant to be my substitute insurance policy. I got it so that I don't have to carry my umbrella when the sky is just a little overcast.
Right away I realized the coat has secondary uses.
It can be used as a vapor block barrier (VBL). VBLs are a slightly complicated and controversial topic in the outdoors community.
I'll try to explain.
When out in cold weather, one should wear a base layer that wicks away moisture. Eventually that moisture can reach the midlayer(s) and shell layer(s). One of those mid or outer layers may be a down sweater, or a down jacket. In extreme cold weather, like twenty and below, it's possible that the dew point will coincide with the temperature of the down.
The dew point is the temperature, for a given pressure and relative humidity, where the moisture vapor turns to liquid -- turns to water. If that dew point is below freezing, the down first gets wet, then freezes. Not only is the down no longer insulating, down is harder to dry out than, say, wool, when out hiking and/or camping.
