Stephen Rudolph: This is the best study guide for a beginner violin student. SLOW progress makes it easy to follow (most books have easy pieces at the beginning and then jump into the hard stuff... like Suzuki. And the practice songs are great.
I dropped a star because alot the songs are geared towards the American Population. Songs used in political situations, American Indian songs.. come on.. i know more americans buy these books, but as a Canadian... it doesn't get me any inspiration to play songs not part of my culture... I've gone through a hundred songs books and never have seen this kind of flag-waving patriotism incorporated in a songbook... There ARE other countries in the world out there...

Levy: Very good book for grasping the basics, nothing beats face to face with an instructor but this book helps you get used to bow holding and finger positions. Passing it on to some younger family members when they grow a bit older. Book was exactly what I wanted it to be.
