violinpainter: The ET-5800 printer set up easily and successfully. The set up instructions were easy to follow. The ink bottles filled the reservoir cleanly and easily. The print quality is good. I needed an all-in-one printer that could print on 80lb cover cardstock. I had checked another model ET-5150 that had conflicting information in the user manual on support of that weight paper. I contacted technical support via email and they referred me to sales support. Fortunately the sales person was able to determine that the user manual was misleading and guided me to the ET-5800. The printer printed my cardstock successfully from the front cassette. The sales person said she would report the error in the ET-5150 manual. One has to be careful about the accuracy of technical manuals.

Edson Family Practice: I loved this printer. It does everything well as long as you give it high quality paper.
BUT at 2 years and 6 months after purchase, it now has a mechanical failure that causes it to think that there is a paper jam when there isn't. And as long as it thinks there is a paper jam, it won't let you print or do anything else. I tried canned air sprayed inside, and I would use the Clean Pass sheets, but it won't pull them through bc it thinks there is a paper jam. =( And there is no one who repairs them within a 200 mile radius of me. SO GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY cause AFTER 2 years is when it is going to break

E.W. NorwoodE.W. Norwood: I ordered an Epson ET-5850 from Amazon on 1/27/2023 and it arrived on 1/28/2023. After several tests, I determined on 1/28/2023 that the printer rendered “banding” on all standard quality print outs on any paper thicker than normal copy paper. I worked with Epson tech support for two days to troubleshoot on Monday 1/30/2023 and Tuesday 1/31/2023. The tech and I, of course, went through the prescribed print alignment and print quality adjustments, but to no avail.
The Epson representative determined that the printer was experiencing “hardware failure” and put the order in to send out another printer to me. The replacement printer arrived on 2/2/2023 at approximately 5:15pm.
I unboxed the replacement printer and noticed that it was black instead of white like the original printer. Additionally, the model number for the replacement was ET-5850U. I thought nothing of that difference as I assumed Epson had sent me a comparable printer as a replacement. I then boxed up the defective printer and applied the return label to the package.
Next, I set up the replacement printer and charged the ink as directed. After all was completed, I received an error message of 950143...

Mike C.: Pro: Extremely clear, easy setup. Well thought out instructions. Firmware, driver, system stuff comes on a CD. My notebook does not have a CD, but setup utility available on line and works fine. Physically smaller and lighter than the Brother MFC color laser it replaces. Print is terrific, including a color photo taken with a cell phone and printed on ordinary copy paper. Edge to edge was perfect. In about an hour you can put together, load and charge ink, get the install package and install, update firmware, load ink: ready to go. Someone reviewed earlier about the ink discharge tank not being available anywhere; not true. $20 or so right on Amazon or at Epson. When the time comes I'm going to try to empty and rinse it out. Not a single molecule of ink mess in setup, load, charge, disposal.

Con: Epson requires complete address, email address, phone number, type of business, etc.; just way too nosey for me. All this just to register the machine. System features, such as scan to email, require registering all this information to their system; I feel like this is a Big Brother machine. All this gets Epson too much in my business. Persique: Brand-new office printer purchased on Black Friday. Set up halted due to printer complaining that there was a paper jam; this is BEFORE I even put any paper inside and right after toner was filled.
Called EPSON tech support and after spending 44 minutes on the phone with a few clueless people, I was told to send a picture of the ink levels, screen, proof of purchase, serial number so that someone 'may' contact me within a few days; hopefully 3 days or less!! EPSON tech support in Canada has 1.5 stars out of 5 (scale in this case does not matter, does it?)
Called Amazon to send a replacement to which they said you have to buy a new one and return this one (hi Amazon, if I wanted to do that I would go to my nearest BestBuy or electronics store, no?)
Buyer beware ... hope you never call EPSON support.

Allen Purdy: Replaced an HP 476 and was a bit worried it wouldn't be as good but it is. It's a smaller footprint and the ink savings will be susstantial. It's used in a home office situation on a daily basis. The scanner is excellent and the 2 sided printing is smooth and bug free - so far anyway.

RobinK Scents: It works very well and is much faster than ET-4750 and ET-4760. The only draw back is that it seems to stretch a scan onto 2 pages sometimes.

Mike: I should have read and believed the two other one-star reviews on Amazon.

First be aware that just about all of the 5-star reviews for this printer found on the global Epson sites and re-produced elsewhere are by Beta testers who appear to have been given a printer by Epson. (I guess the liability lawyers made sure that was stated right at the bottom of each lengthy high praise review, the part that most people --- me included--- never get to whilst skimming the reviews, plausible deniability eh?)

I'm a professional engineer and have been using personal computers and peripheral devices since the 1980’s, I've never before seen such egregious and blatant boosting of a shoddy product. So BUYER BEWARE. See below for specifics.

The printer has more bells and whistles than a clown car but unfortunately behaves like one too, Epson seem to have completely missed a critical part----- the quality of the printed image output.
Out of the box the cyan head on mine was not working properly and is still intermittent after multiple normal cleaning cycles and a power cleaning followed by a 12-hour rest as per the manual.

All attempted image prints, thirty or so,...
