Lucy: I upgraded to this when I got tired of my HP and having to have an ink subscription. Not only is this easier to set up, network and use but it prints beautifully and the ink lasts. I’m a teacher and a PhD student. I print a lot. This was well worth the initial investment money and I would highly recommend.

Julie A. Bacon: This printer is the best printer I ever used. It is fast, reliable, easy to use...even for this grandma, and you don't have to keep purchasing expensive cartridges. THAT's where they really get your money. The trick is to spend a little more on the printer and save in the long run on ink that you refill yourself. It's easy, quick, and it's not messy. Finally, a home office printer that holds a lot of paper so you don't have to constantly refill the tray. You can easily see the amount of ink so you can reorder... haven't had to yet. I use it for home and scouts mostly... so I print a lot.

Only downside is if you're looking to print photos... this printer isn't for you. Hence, the 4 stars. It doesn't have super quality photo printing. So if you need a workhorse, this guy's your best friend. If you need precision quality photo printing, look elsewhere.

GramaneenGramaneen: After 5 years, my HP home printer died. It had a good run, so I tried the similar level of HP. What a piece of junk that was! The HP didn’t work right from the get go and all the parts were so cheaply made. I returned that and decided to spend a little more to get the Epson ET-3850 after reading the reviews. I liked the idea of not having to pay a gazillion dollars every time you turn around on ink. The HP I had purchased because I liked the instant ink program I was on. It had its pros/cons..

Yes, I paid more for this printer, (I think it was $399) but it has a lot of ink that will last me for a while vs. paying a monthly instant ink membership of 5.99 - 9.99 a month.

The Et-3850 was SOOOOO easy to set up. Super intuitive app that worked so easily with the printer. I set it up using my tablet and eventually added the printer to my husband’s phone, his tablet, and my phone. All easy peasy.
