Ener-G Aluminum-Free Baking Soda Alternative

RR: So happy to find this product! I have been doing gluten free baking for some time and now my husband needs a low sodium diet, so this product is really a life-saver! Worked great. I wrote on the lid with a marker USE 2x UNLESS SPeCIFIeD so that in the middle of baking I don’t have to squint at the small print to read the directions! Many recipes I have found call for this product by brand name. Hope you are as pleased with it as I am!

joeN: I am on a low sodium diet and regular baking adds a lot of sodium to items . This works excellent with all baking . Doest not affect the cooking or taste process at all.

Geen: It is good for low sodium diets, but you need twice as much as baking soda. I found it didn't rise as much and left an aftertaste

G&L: Unfortunately my wife, the baker in our family, did not find it provided the best substitute.
Our son has recently had a heart operation and before, plus now, was told to keep his salt intake to a very small amount. We hoped this product would replace the need for salt and things like baking soda allowing him to enjoy an occasional cake/scone.

KD: I was very excited to find a NO sodium baking soda substitute. My daughter is on a very, very restrictive sodium diet, and I was hoping to find baking ingredients so she doesn't miss out on desserts which are always loaded with sodium. I used this for a cake recipe and found, even with using double the amount called for in the recipe, the rising results were only fair. It gave the cake a very dense texture, and I had to increase the cooking time needed to compensate. While I was slightly disappointed in the density the product produced, I still rated it 4 stars because I was able to use it with minimal negative results. I don't feel rating the taste is fair because it's difficult to say if the taste was because of the product itself or because the saltiness was absent. I will say it didn't taste awful or metallic, so that is a HUGE plus. Other products trying to mimic salt with no sodium often taste very bitter or leave a very undesirable aftertaste while I found this did not. Definitely recommend this product even with its minor flaws. It has made making a lifestyle change an easier transition for our family.
