I recently had a fridge calamity. Power went out and everything in it spoiled. Unfortunately, i did not clean it right away and microbiology took its course. Man for such small critters they really let out a stink.

Fortunately, Arm and hammer drove back the smells beautifully until i could get it cleaned out and back in order.
This particular brand is a specialty box for just such calamities. It is not your usual multipurpose pour box as is typically found on the shelf.

Do not use this for baking, it seems to have a special mix to address odor problems only. When you open it you will see there is a handy spill proof cover that lets the ole A&H get to work.

SJaneH: These work well in absorbing odors in my refrigerator, the freezer, the kitchen trash can, and the car trunk. We are on well water, so we make our own ice cubes from bottled water. These keep our ice cubes from tasting/smelling of other food odors. You might ask why I don't use regular boxes of baking soda. My answer would be that the Arm & Hammer Fridge-n-Freezer boxes are specially designed to be spill-proof. I do not want a product that spills its contents onto my refrigerator shelves or into my trash can and then cling onto the liner making a huge mess or all over the trunk of my car. Less mess is very important to me. I have a life that doesn't include time cleaning up spilled baking soda. LOL! The box states to replace every 30 days, but I find mine last well beyond that. When they no longer absorb odor, I recycle the contents to scrub the sinks, tubs and toilets. Win! Win!

Amazon Customer: Before I start, just wanted to say that I bought this product as well as the commercial version, and the commercial version (Arm & Hammer 33200-84011 Baking Soda Fridge-n-Freezer Odor Absorber, 16 oz (Pack of 12)) is a much better buy. At the time of this review, the 14oz consumer box, pack of 6 was $14.75. But the 16oz commercial version in a pack of 12 was $21.99. It's pretty much the same thing, other than the oz size and the cost.

We use this product in many places around the house, so a pack of 12 actually goes pretty quick. We usually have two in the fridge and two in the freezer. I don't know if it's psychological/placebo effect or not, because I can't give a scientific reason why, but we seem to have less moldy food and the ice doesn't seem to have that weird taste (and we change our filter regularly). The fridge doesn't have any unusual smells, but the drawback is if something does go bad, it takes longer to realize that you forgot some takeout from a few weeks ago.

It also works great for the kitchen trash can, as well as the trash can we use for the baby's used diapers. Prior to using this product, the whiff of stench every time we threw something away...

Amber B.: We love these and have about 3 in our fridge and 3 in our freezer. It helps absorb any odors and keeps the odors from going into other foods such as the butter, which very easily takes on smells. We change them out about twice a year (even though it says to do it once a month). Our biggest concern is with the flavor of our ice. It keeps the ice tasting fresh with no after flavor. Of course, we change our water filter at the recommended time but the ice easily absorbs odors from the freezer as well as odors that permeate from the fridge (especially from spicy dishes). These little orange boxes have put a stop to that.

PROS: inexpensive
takes up little space
very effective at absorbing odors
do not have to replace every month (more like every 6 months) just do a sniff check and if the box smells funny, toss it
vents on both sides so it absorbs even more odors than the standard box
Arm & Hammer brand

CONS: box is not designed to be used for baking. Not a problem. Just keep a standard style box in your pantry for that.
