Bobby Magic: OKAY...I admit it. Ten or Fifteen years ago I was running a 90 gallon Cichlid tank and I had a BIG Eheim canister to filter the tank. I loved it. Sold it when I got out of the hobby; sold it with the tank. So all these years go by. Now I'm into Nano tanks. Planted Aquascapes. I'm being challenged and I love that part of it.
There's a YouTube Video with IAPLC Grand Prize Winner Dave Chow giving a workshop on Takashi Amano style aquascaping. At one point during the YouTube video he. says: "Trial and error. And I have so many errors. You must find yours, and then, after that, you can find your methods". THIS is where I'm at. I have years in the aquarium hobby but I'm a rookie when it comes to live plant aquascaping and I am LEARNING and that's the fun part. Sometimes frustrating that's true but then the gratification ultimately comes. Anyway...back to EHEIM. Before I went back to EHEIM, I bought 3 canister filters from what is currently a very popular brand that competes against EHEIM. I was especially attracted to this brand because it has a heater housed right inside the canister filter. How cool is that? No need for an unsightly heater in your tank! But when I received the...

Amazon Customer: I got this small filter for my new 30 gallons tank. I have the big one for my other tank, so I'm familiar with Ehem, but I was curious about the noise level since the new tank is in the bedroom, so I went to see the reviews.

A lot of people complain that it has no clear instructions how to assemble, and some that there is no flow level control and some didn't know how to prime (face palm). So I just want to comment on these points.

The instructions are clear if you are not a newbie in the aquarium hobby world. If you are new - there is lots to learn, just remember that and don't complain about the most amazing product on the market out there. I guess what confuses people is that there are two hoses given, and it is up to the buyer how to cut them and how to set up, because everyone has their own needs and preferences. For an example, you could make the part connecting the water output bended to fit it in a corner, so in that case you'd need a longer hose piece to do it.

Now about the water flow. The default one is strong and moves the water around the tank a lot, so unless you have a specific fish that just needs a fast flow - it would disturb the habitat....

IDDIDD: I have 5 decades of experience with aquaria, getting my first tank when I was 14 yrs. I've seen lots of systems come and go. The Eheim filtration system is one of the best I've encountered. I am very disappointed to say that the quality of their filters has deteriorated over time and it seems that their warranty support is outsourced to some place equally foreign. My three year old Classic 250 filter developed a slow leak. Thanks to the fact that I use a Honeywell Home Wi-Fi Water and Freeze Detector I was notified instantly. (I strongly recommend you use a detector if a leaky aquarium could cause you substantial property damage, in addition to tank life loss.) The leak was caused by a crack in the bottom threaded connector (see photo) and likely represents poor workmanship and/or inferior materials. Now, the day this happened was the same day our city was served a total retail lockdown order due to the pandemic. I quickly realized that I could lose my 48 gallon tank, plants, fish and all if I didn't get this resolved quickly and that a local retail outlet would not be able to help. So, I used a powerhead to keep the tank water circulating and contacted info at Eheim support with...

Pen Enthusiast: I have a Fluval Edge 12 gallon aquarium, which comes with a hang-over-back (HOB) filter. While the HOB filter is okay, there are a couple of areas I'm hoping to improve on: (1) quiet water flow, (2) larger volume of filter media. With the HOB filter, if I adjust the water flow to more than half its maximum, the sound of the water return splashing onto the water surface was a bit loud (even with water level pretty close to the top), and it also has the added problem of creating too much water flow for the comfort of the fishes (a number of them would just hang out at the top corners and avoid the central "waterfall" area). With the Eheim Classic 150 (model number 2211), it creates gentle water flow with the included spray bar (which I submerge vertically due to the Fluval Edge's lack of top access) but enough circulation and I can literally see the fishes that used to hide from strong currents come into the center of the tank, and they look much more at ease.

The Classic 150 is also very effective: it has maybe 5 times the filter media volume compared to the HOB filter (the Eheim spec says 1 liter). This is important because it has much more volume for biological media that...

cerfvolant8: We bought this to replace our existing filter system because it was too noisy.

It is a supremely quiet filter system. If you submerge the outlet pipe it is so quiet that you are not even sure it is even there. The silence is amazing!

The installation manual on the other hand is written as if a 5 year old assembled it, then explained it to a blind person, then the blind person explained to a deaf person, then the deaf person explained to a mute person, who then wrote it down.

I have seen university students write better instructions.

So here are some tips: 1. once you are ready to hook up everything put the unit in a big bucket first. this way any un-anticipated water spills will be in the bucket and you wont have to deal with a flood.
2. the suction pipe, once installed in tank, has enough pressure in a full ~80gl tank to push the water through by itself, without need you to suck on it, and fill up the whole unit , so no need to prime it manually.

blessed silence, but installation was a pain the ass.

Adrian: The media could not be loaded.
