Edsal Heavy-Duty Black Steel Industrial Shelving Unit (UR-364BLK)

TZM: The shelving was received in fairly good shape considering the distance it had to travel. There was a slight chip off one of the corners of the particle boards but it's acceptable. However, the coupler parts were missing. I've been trying to contact Edsal through the email and phone numbers listed on the insert. The phone line is always busy and I'm asked to leave a message, which I did, and I haven't heard a peep. I also haven't heard anything via email. Today, I went to their website and found a different email address and phone numbers. I've emailed to that address and will update here to see if I receive a response.

I have no idea what I'm going to do if I can't get the parts: I live in a remote area and can't just drop into a hardware store for "McGyvered" ideas. I won't be able to return the shelving either since I tossed the packaging: big mistake on my part!

LATER TODAY: I just received TWO emails from Edsal and am told to expect the parts in about 5 days. So, all is not lost yet. Will be back to provide another update.

03/04/14 update: I received the right parts about a week after receiving the emails. Not 5 days but that can be excused as mail does...

Karen: A lot of people have complained about not receiving the coupling brackets to attach the top part to the bottom, but you don't need them. In fact, they don't even fit and are a waste of packaging space and money for the company. I suspect that's why so many people have received these units without the coupling brackets.

If you look up Edsal UR185L-BLK Black Steel Heavy Duty 5-Shelf Shelving Unit, 4000lbs Capacity, 36" Width x 72" Height x 18" Depth (on Amazon), a customer has added pictures showing how you attach the top and bottom together without the coupling brackets. They included notes, so it should help anyone who was frustrated over not receiving the coupling brackets.

I also ordered 3 of the taller units, which I put together first, so I didn't really understand the need for the coupling brackets to begin with.. I tried to use them anyways, found they do not fit, so scratched the couplers and put the unit together just like I did the taller units..

I'm a 59 year old woman and I put all 5 of these units together myself.. They are heavy in the box, but UPS brought them inside and stacked them up on the floor for me.. I then slid each box, one at a time,...

I read many of these reviews where parts were missing and what not, (and I am sure they prob were), however, I am going to let you know that I bought (1) of these to see what the quality is for the ridiculously low price they are selling for (yes, I was a skeptic). When this thing arrived and I banged it all together with nothing more than a rubber mallet, fully assembled, I was very impressed. None of my parts/pieces were missing, I could have been a complete moron and still would have been able to successfully assemble this unit. This is hands down the best quality shelf in terms of weight capacity/quality=price point. After this first test shelf, I bought 14 more that night, all arrived quickly and again, very nice, no missing pieces.

The bad -
I think the shipper throws these around a bit, there has been a couple I opened that has some nicked up corners from (particle board shelve portion), but the good news is they are still usable, drop right in, function the same. For me it was not worth complaining about given I just bought a shelf that feels like a $100 shelf shipped to my door front for $36 total. There were also a couple metal rivet corners...
