S. J. Campbell: I bought this jacket for a trip to Alaska in late November. We were renting cold weather gear when we got to our final destination, but I wanted something that would keep me reasonably warm until then. This jacket was perfect for that. I added some layers, and was plenty warm. The outside temperature wasn't terribly cold -- below freezing but above zero -- so I can't say how well it would do in truly cold weather. I took the advice of some other reviewers and bought a size larger than I normally would, and was really glad I did. That gave me enough room to add layers and still be able to zip up.

I have a closet full of jackets and coats, but this has become my "go-to" jacket for everything except extremely cold weather. I think I'll be able to wear it well into the spring. Haven't tried to wash it yet. I'll be very careful when I do. Yes, it loses a feather every now and then, but I haven't found that to be a problem.
