EA Performance Hang-On The Back Power Filter is the perfect filtration solution for small aquariums up to 4 gallons. With a dual stage filtration design, this filter provides both biological and mechanical filtration for a healthy aquatic environment. Installation is a breeze with the plug and play design, and maintenance is simple. Plus, you can trust that this filter is NOT made in China. With a reputation for quality, customer service, ease of use, and overall satisfaction, the EA Performance Hang-On The Back Power Filter is one of the best Aquarium Filters on the market. Jonathan Sommer: Using this on a 2.5 gallon tank with guppies. It is very quiet and so far is keeping the tank clean. Setup was easy also. There is even a spacer for the bottom of the filter so it can sit level on the edge without resting entirely on the side of the tank.
Too early to say how cleaning or replacing the filter media is yet. The filter did not restart itself after two power outages, but after adding a cup of water to the filter directly, it started right up again. Struggled to find anything like this in physical stores. Would definitely recommend for any small fish tanks that want an external filter that's quiet and small.

Alisa ZAlisa Z: I tried several aquarium pumps/filter for a 3-gallon freshwater tank, but this one is by far the best filter I've seen. It is very well made, is very quiet, and is compact. Because I am working with a planted tank, the filter needed to have room for a small UV light to fit in the back of the filter. This one has plenty of space for the UV light as well as the small media filters that came with the pump. When my existing pump died, I just let the tank sit, so the plants died and the water became murky. I replaced the filter with this Aquarium Masters, and in one hour, the water was so much clearer. I would highly recommend this filter if you have a small tank.

Rob: No where does it say this is 110V, unless you open the packaging and read the sticker on it! Australia uses 230V so i didn't dare plug it on otherwise it would surely smoke!

Amazon Customer: I was fed up with having bought 4 of the Azoo Mignon ones, so decided to give this one a shot, even though it doesn't come with the sponge that goes over the intake. This is important to have so your fish or shrimp do not get sucked into the intake! I had an extra intake sponge from the last Azoo canister filter I bought, which fits this one, but you can also rig up the larger replacement intake sponges from Fluval (A1387) to fit this or the Azoo, by carefully trimming some of the outer edge (don't cut too close to center hole!) to make it thinner and using the trimmed pieces to stuff inside the sponge hole around the intake valve to make it tight to the valve. That, or just keep the Fluval in one piece and wedge extra filter sponge pieces cut to fit inside the Fluval intake sponge hole. Anyway... this unit is very, very quiet running, but was problematic for me at first. This is because I don't use the filter media they provide, I add my own bio-balls, fluval clearmax in media bag, and sponge, and also need to baffle the outflow with a sponge in order to lower the intensity of flow for my betta. After adding my media and baffle, the flow was already very strong and was...

Jess: I bought this filter to use in a nano tank and had to wait for a US to AU converter plug. Set up the filter, plugged it in. All was fine. Next day, the filter is not working. I’ve troubleshooted everything that could be an issue, and it’s 100% the product. Really, really disappointing 😡

PKSPKS: ORIGINAL REVIEW APRIL 2020:
I'd spent some time trying different small power filters for planted Betta tanks and found that most of them start rattling and dying within a month of operation. I suspect the manufacturing and QC on small pumps is either difficult or, frankly, just cheap.
Then I ran across these. There were just a handful of reviews but I figured on giving them a try and I'm sincerely glad I did. I put them into operation approximately five days ago. Here's some pros and cons:
Pros:
Small size
Very low noise
Adjustable water flow (surprising for such a small package)
Low cost
Cons:
Filter media is basically non-existent other than what comes with the package.
Regarding the filter media I purchased a box of Fluval Aqua Clear 30 foam inserts and cut them in half and then cut them lengthwise (not all the way through, just enough so I could fold them back like a book). I did this so I could put a small amount of carbon and zeolites. That sounds a bit confusing so see the photos - I took one with the cover off. I also took a photo of the foam inserts. In the photo, the yellow and black inserts are what come with the filter. The...

MilesMiles: I will update if anything goes wrong, as for now the filter is awesome, quiet, and very efficient for anything under 5 gallons; I’m using on a 3 gallon nano breeder, and the shrimp seem very happy that I am easily able to turn the current down while they’re eating. A nice perk is the decent amount of room for extra bio media/desired media. I will very likely be buying this for most if not all of my current and future shrimp tanks(even shrimplet tanks).
