Cthulhu: Looking at the image youd think there was ample handle to use this 5'6 as a trolling rod in a pinch. nope. short A.F. I honestly wonder if thats the difference between the 5'6 and the 6'0 is the handle length. That aside, great rod. doesn't feel like you're swinging nothing like the carbon but meh, darn close.

Amazon Customer: In the past, Ugly Stik has been a brand you could count on for quality, durability and performance. Just received my new GX2 7ft 2pc from Amazon. Sad to say, the quality control is not as good as before. The line guides are not completely straight and the upper rod piece is not completely straight. It does not give me confidence that the rod will hold up when I hook that big one. (read other reviewers with same problem). I was expecting better from this brand and for the money. The line guide eyes are suppose to be new and improved > they just look cheaper to me. However, it seems to cast well and I like the feel of it. It's too bad we can't continue to rely on brands we have trusted in the past. Update Sept 2023: The rod actually straightened out on its on after a few uses. I think it had been stored in a bent position. I was able to straighten the line guides by hand. I think now the problem was not quality control, but mis-handling during storage and shipping. It was shipped to me loose in a box with no packing.

Nooorm24: For the record, I'm not an avid fisherman. I'm a weekend warrior. But I have little place on a lake and do a fair amount of fishing. I own 6 Ugly Stiks - four 5 1/2' with pistol grip, one 6' with pistol grip, and this one. I wouldn't recommend it for a high end reel. There are MUCH better and more expensive rods for that purpose. So my 5 star rating is based on similarly priced rods. It wouldn't be fair to compare it against rods costing 10 times as much. But if your reels are more entry or intermediate level, I would certainly give Ugly Stiks a look. I currently use them with 3 Zebco Bullets, a Zebco Omega, a Zebco One Classic, and an old Penn 209. I use them primarily for dock fishing. They are extremely durable. One of them I've had for years. I've never had a bit of trouble with it. They are by far my favorite rod at their price point. I'm not a fan of cork grips. I love the grips on the Ugly Stiks. They just feel right in my hand. The light colored tip on the black rod really makes it stand out when you get a strike. Jonsered: I purchased this rod as an upgrade for a lighter rod that I was using for trolling. This rod has more backbone and easily handles trolling crank baits and larger spoons. This is a great investment.
