Alan: Originally, I picked this up in the mid 2000s, and just reread this book. It aged fairly well, though there are a few places where it gets a little male-gazy. Definitely worth a read! Just a Greta start to a truly deep fantasy series. Can't wait to reread the rest.

Amazon Customer: This was the first series of books I ever read. They’re the reason I am reader now. The characters are are like old friends and I return to them every couple of years. If you like fantasy and aren’t a snob, pick them up. You might not love them like I do, but you’ll probably have a good time. But be warned, you may start calling people doorknobs.

Francois Dumas: Excellent book for those who wish to start into dungeon and dragons.

Lisa Smith-Atwell: I read this book series in high school in 1988. I decided to reread the Dragonlance Chronicles. I don't find the storyline captivating. Not bad, but it seems a little forced at time. I had to roll my eyes a few times. Like when they were all hiding from the guards in a house and hunkered down and EVERYONE forgot to shut the door, allowing them to be discovered. Or when they were all fooled by a Dragon made of wicker. I always wondered how two authors could write one piece of fiction, like two people painting a picture. I am planning to finish the series for nostalgic reasons, but I don't think I will do it again. Case in point: I bought The Dragons of Autumn Twilight in 2018 and stopped half way through. I just found the book on my shelf and started reading again. There is much better fantasy fiction to read. If you haven't read the Lord of the Rings, start there. Once you do you won't come here.

Tracy: Back when I was a teenager, many many lifetimes ago, I was handed this book, and I fell in love with this world. Now, it begins again.

Zetsumei: I'm torn about this book. I started this series because I read several Dragonlance books when I was in middle school and remembered liking them. Though, almost twenty years later, I remember very little except a few names - Raistlin in particular. I recently realized the books I read were from much later in the series and got curious about how it started...

To start, I'm pretty sure this and other similar fantasy novels impacted my writing style when I was younger. Either that or third-person omniscient was the norm even in the early 2000s. By the time I found this series, this first book would've already been almost 20 years old. With third-person limited perspectives being far more common these days, I have to say that third-person omniscient writing is way more distracting than I remember. While some might prefer it for its 'movie-esque' feel, it gets cluttered very fast with how many characters there are.

While the overarching storyline is reminiscent of a D&D homebrew campaign (yes, I understand that was the source material), the execution of the narrative is chaotic and at times disjointed. Characters' internal monologues bleed into one...

Lora S.: Dragons of Autumn Twilight is the first of a four-book set of Dragon Lance Chronicles. These books are based on a set of video and/ or computer games (I don’t do that many games, so am not sure which) designed by one of the authors. There are apparently several other sets of books by the same authors set in the same universe, and many, many other similar books by other authors as well. This type of book has the potential to be very good, or possibly very bad. I would say this one is reasonably good.

The character development here is pretty good, although it is better for some characters than for others. I suspect that by the end of the fourth book, we will know at least most of the characters very well.

There are a lot of standard fantasy game features in the story. There is an adventuring party with members of several races and professions (a half-elf, a dwarf, a creature known as a Kender that somewhat resembles a Hobbit but has a few unique qualities of its own, and several humans, one of whom is a mage and another, the only woman in the original party, who is eventually declared to be a cleric).

Most of these people are known to each other already and...

Dave Kloetstra: Great for readers that want more than "basic" but not "high fantasy" (LotR). Great books with some depth to characters.
Still as good as it was 30 years ago!

masonator: I first read this book 35 years ago, when I was 12. In those 35 years, school, university, love, loss, marriage, children, cars, mortgages and jobs have all made life much more…stressful…mundane…human.

This book is just as magical to me now as it was all those years ago. The mortgages and jobs and kids are still there, which in a way makes me love this book even more, as it gives me the opportunity, if even for a few moments, and to remember that life is more than making money and paying bills.
