Katie: This is the one climate book I routinely recommend to everyone. It goes through the basic science and how to counter misinformation, but it does a lot of things that are actually more important: how to talk about climate change in a way that opens the conversation up, rather than closes it down. Also a nuanced and interesting discussion of climate and faith, which I rarely see. I work on a climate program and especially for people in the US, Canada and Australia, I always recommend it, but equally this is definitely the book to start with if you're freaked out about climate change and want to know more but kind of don't; or if you work on climate change or care about it deeply and want to open that conversation for others in your life. Most other climate books don't offer this entry point, to be honest.

Rich R: Dr. Hayhoe is very authoritative and accurate regarding the reality, the causes of, the adverse effects, and the solutions to our climate crisis. Others have written similarly on this topic, but her coverage is among the clearest and most accurate.
The title of the book is allusion to the fact that no matter what we humans do this beautiful world God gave us, the planet will continue to exist in its present place in the universe; it just won’t be very habitable for humans and other creatures.
The author also recounts personal anecdotes in her quest to help us solve this vexing problem. Some are awful threats to her life and the life of her family. She gets a humorous reply from Martin Rees, Astronomer Royal of the UK, concerning Stephen Hawking’s pronouncement about Mars. Rees says: “… fixing climate change is a doodle in the park compared with terraforming Mars.”
Dr. Hayhoe is unique and strongest when it comes to addressing the climate crisis with people who are between being dismissive of the issue and those who fully appreciate the reality of climate. She advises talking about it perhaps by asking questions.

She’s not only a climate scientist but also:
- a Canadian living in Texas
- an evangelical Christian
- a university professor

She’s learned how to speak to all kinds of people about the climate crisis in terms that resonate.

I bought her book on a whim, when I was feeling particularly depressed about the climate crisis.

Reading it has been a huge encouragement for me.

She knows her science, but she also understands psychology (and how to get people onboard). 💯

It’s a book about hope and practical action.

Thomas Wikman: This is an extremely well written, informative, and hopeful book on climate communication. A decade ago I was doubtful that human caused climate change was anything to worry about even though it physically made sense that it was happening. I thought environmentalists were exaggerating and distorting the facts. In general I did not trust or respect environmentalists whom I thought were driven by leftist agendas. I studied the topic on my own by reading books and scientific articles on the topic, and I learned what climate scientists, not opinionated bloggers, said about the topic. I was especially impressed by a book by James Hansen.

I came to realize that human caused global warming definitely was real and a serious problem. I think I was able to change my mind so easily because I never had a strong affiliation with a political tribe, I respected scientific expertise and my encounter with science deniers in other fields had inoculated me against their kind of rhetoric (it’s fairly universal). I’m an abstract thinker who loves pro-con-lists, and I prefer going in deep and I am not afraid of math, but I don’t think that’s typical. The backside of that is that it made...

Gregg White: When I was in training to convince people to invest rather than buy whole life insurance, I referenced an example of evedince for every point I was making. My trainer told me my points maid my presentation too long and uninteresting. Just like this review that is way longer than it needs to be, so is this book that has interesting information, but has way more text than needed.
