DIY 3D Printer with Removable Magnetic Bed: Creality Ender 3 Pro

ASchaldy: This 3D printer was easy to setup and get started printing. The directions for putting together and starting printing are excellent and easy to follow. All of the operating instructions and sample print files are on a USB drive that is sent along with the printer. The printer is made of top quality materials and you can print lots of upgrades and accessories for it. The only problem I had with it is the magnetic bed mat got 2 holes in it within 2 weeks of starting to use it but it is still usable.
As for print quality that all depends on how well you have leveled the bed of the printer but that is pretty easy to do and once leveled it stays leveled for quite a while. And the quality of the print also depends on the type and brand of filament you use.

Klaus Guo: Assembly w/o problems, you find many detailed videos on YouTube. First print was already successful. After one week I got sporadically thermal runaway. Doing some troubleshooting, it seemed to be a contact problem with the thermistor at the hot end. Removing the fans and silicon doing a visual inspection and moving the wires, it now runs stable. Excellent support from the seller, who contacted Creality to help, providing a spare heating element and thermistor. Only problem: the printer is not shielded in any way. It produces huge electromagnetic interference in the VHF range. Don't understand, how Creality could pass FCC and CE.

Aaron G.: overall i am very happy with this printer. it wasn't to hard to assemble and when I was finished i was blown away by the quality of the first print i got off the machine. i didn't have to do any tweaking everything came out perfect! the Al build plate was warped (like pretty much all low cost printers) but i purchased the glass bed and haven't had any leveling problems.

I do have a few complaints:
The extruder feeder arm should quickly be replaced with a descent aluminum one as it will break!
The Z axis lead screw has no support at the top but there are many supports that can be easily printed on thingiverse
The X carriage belt tensioner is tricky to adjust the tension but again there are printable options on thingiverse that work well
it has no bootloader. why does creality not put a boot loader on the ender 3? there is plenty of memory for it and the firmware that comes pre-loaded is quite old. if you want to update the firmware make sure you have an arduino handy so you can install a bootloader

all in all i can see why this is one of the best selling printers in 2019. i might even get another one soon and have recommended it to several friends looking...

FL-ReviewerFL-Reviewer: The media could not be loaded.  This is our first 3D printer, and it has been a blast! It came in a well put together box with the majority of the printer already assembled. The actual assembly from the box took about 1.5 hours from unboxing to ready to print, and it came with all of the assembly tools, some tools for using with the printer (spatula and PLA clipers) and also a MicroSD card to get started with.

We had done some minimal printing at work so had a general understanding of the process, however ran into some initial problems with the Ender 3 because we didn't properly level the print bed. That led to a very scratched magnetic bed which had to be replaced. We don't fault the printer, but rather the owners. We did some research and found a great guide that helped. We don't know if they strip links, so here is a link to the Thingiverse print which has a link to the video that saved me. Once we watched this video, everything made sense. We have printed a whole bunch of items since then. We would also highly recommend the addition of the Octoprint which enables you to upload 3D models via a webpage which makes it a LOT easier rather than moving the SD card back...

I have been lusting after a 3D printer for some years but never quite got there. But when I saw the Pro version of this for $220 shipped it was a steal.

It took me about 1.5hrs to build. The manual they give is enough if you're mechanically minded, and there are lots of youtubes if you aren't as confident.

The thing is nice and compact and went together very smoothly. Everything fitted nicely, with no oddness. It felt solid straight away.

The first thing I did was look up the setup and its basically just leveling the bed. This was really easy following a youtube video.
I then loaded the tiny amount of supplied PLA filament and tried a test print.
To load the prints you need to get a model (usually in STL format) and use a program to slice the object into layers. I use Cura as it's free and very flexible. It supports the printer right out of the box and has profiles for different plastics and quality levels.
