KristenL: I enjoyed this book but my children were not as into it. It's a little wordy. We love the other book by this author- Listening to my Body and would recommend that one for sure. This one, I likely wouldn't buy again. But perhaps would take a chance on it because you never know what will help or what will draw your kids in.

S Adewunmi: Good little book with a good message, but it's in an American school/ life context with words like recess etc that our little one does not use or understand. Had to send it back.

Janet Eriksson: I loved reading this book. I wish I had read a book like this when I was a kid. It took a lot of work (as an adult) to get beyond self-hatred and move toward self-compassion. I’m still a work in progress. I’m glad kids have a book like this to learn while they are young.
It’s a sweet story with beautiful words and pictures. But it also shows practical advice for a simple way kids can engage in more encouraging self-talk. And it helps kids know that self-compassion, as well as compassion for others, grows peace. What a beautiful image of peace as something that kids can grow in simple ways.
The book teaches these ideas through a wonderful story, which is great. And I love the prompts that help kids come up with their own words that will help them. As a “big” kid, I plan to use those prompts myself. I think this book is great for kids but also a wonderful resource for adults who never learned self-compassion as a kid.
I’m thankful for the author and illustrator for sharing their talents and kindness.
