DoMo: Having been wrecked by anxiety during Covid, I have been on a journey to get my life back and peace restored. Lent 2022 brought this book into my life and it has put me on the right path to recovery. I used it as both a devotional and journal by writing, agreeing, arguing, pleading, praying in the margins. I have completely thrashed it! However, I can look back now and see the progress day by day. At the end, I felt like I was just starting to “get it,” so I started it all over again, this time with a different filter. It’s a process, but as Zimack says, the book is really all about pointing you to Jesus. One big takeaway was that as the intensity/stress/worry of life increased, my pursuit of Jesus did not, leaving me starving and thirst at a time when I needed to be at the top of my game. Has my anxiety/worry decreased and peace increased? Absolutely, but it is a process….one worth pursing daily.

andrew: I'm 67 years old so I've lived for awhile and been around, and spent many segments of my life worrying about things. I'm a worrier and have been one since my 20's. It doesn't get any easier when you get older. I've been through the SSRI and benzo regimen. This is one of the very few books I've come across that actually helps overcome the worrying or anxiety habit by simply believing and trusting in the infinite power of God and his real infinite love. I actually bought it after Lent, so forget the Lent bit. The chapters are refreshingly short and to the point (about 2 and a half pages) based on a line of Scripture. Our Lord knows how we're made (of course, since He made us) and the author himself is a worrier who knows how to get the point across to us who suffer from anxiety over the many things in life that can bring it on, real and unreal. There are no "worksheets" (hate those, THEY make me nervous), charts, graphs, lists, diagrams, illustrations or annoying cartoons. Just good plain spiritual talk. I got highlights and underlinings all over the place. I just wish this little paperback didn't have such a light-hearted hokey cover for such a serious subject. Well, I guess I take...

Afrânio Novaes: Gostei da linguagem simples e direta para retiro de quaresma. Quem, no entanto já está acostumado com algo mais detido e profundo, vai achar esse livro superficial. Vi que estava muito bem avaliado nos Estados Unidos e acredito pela acessibilidade para quem nunca fez nada parecido. Fica a dica e reforço: se já estiver habituado e tivesse lido antes algo similar a respeito, talvez eu tivesse ido em busca de outro devocional. Outro dado importante que acredito que muitos gostariam de saber é que não se prende à liturgia diária. Pode utilizar as leituras, mas não é regra.
