MikeyJD: I had to remake a deck railing for round aluminum spindles. I used a 3/4" spade bit to cut the holes to receive the posts. That turned out to be 1/8" too small. I tried my 7/8" spade bit that jumped all over. I saw this at a good price and thought it would work to expand the hole, it didn't. It would get bound in the hole constantly. I tried it on new wood with a drill press and it jumped all over. I was going to return it but I misplaced the card it came on. It might be okay on steel but "wood - no good".

Chris: The drill bit came in the mail exactly as pictured.

I used this drill bit with my DEWALT drill and it fit perfect and it held onto the drill bit with no problem.

I was originally worried that it may not hold because the end of the drill bit looks a bit round in shape but it still worked fine with my DEWALT drill.

I can't speak for how well the drill bit works to drill holes. I used the drill bit to expand a hole.

IF you're a photographer and you have a studio strobe that has a umbrella hole that is slightly smaller than 5/16"....(5/16" seems to be a more standard size). You can try what i did. I bought that size drill bit and i put it through the umbrella hole to expand the size of the hole and now my photography umbrellas go through the hole. (And nothing broke)

So the drill bit was used to cut some hard plastic to expand the hole. It worked great and very fast.

The reason why i bought this VERY LONG drill bit was because my studio strobe light umbrella hole is too far for me to to reach with a smaller drill bit. But this long drill fixed that problem.

Only issue is, from what little testing i did. My studio strobe's design hold...

The Tech Guy: This is a good long 12" drill bit. The twist dill bit design does help prevent walking and help with the accurate placement of the hole. For $23 I was expecting to get more use on this bit than I did. I found it went dull much quicker than anticipated. I expected a bit with the DeWalt name on it to last longer than a generic drill bit however then longevity between my generic 12" drill bit and this DeWalt one was about the same. This DeWalt bit cost $8 more.

Not sure if I'd buy this bit again.
