Our stain is easy to apply, comes in a convenient one-gallon size, and is made from the highest quality materials. Enjoy the beautiful cedar tone finish that DEFY Extreme provides for your outdoor wood projects.Mike B.: I built a patio cover using Douglas Fir. I used this stain, with a roller, one side at a time, and immediately wiping any drips down another side with a rag. It went really fast, and looked great! Drips will show so keep a rag at hand at all times and wipe immediately. I learned very quickly how to apply drip free! It also dries very quickly! I could stain in the morning and install the same boards by noon. If you have a staining helper, it won’t slow down your project at all! The color is great!! And the wood is water repellent when dry! One coat was sufficient for the color I wanted. 1-1/2 gal. was sufficient for all the lumber in my 30’ x 12’ patio cover. Great stuff!!!

Cindy A.: The stain went on very easily and dried well. The colour is beautiful. Extremely happy with the look of it. Only time will tell how well it holds up to Canadian winters.

Terry Rennick: Used this product in central Ontario and did all prep work needed to guarantee success!
Did not last the winter and now have a peeling mess on horizontal service! Spent the dollars and got garbage ! Do not buy

greg karout: Honestly, this is garbage. It didn't last one Canadian year. Mold spots on both horizonal and vertical surfaces. Sun fading was terrible. On cedar. Applied on new wood, according to directions. Retreating after one year.

the good doctor: After a lot of research I did my front deck with this stain and it has held impressively with only minor (and very easy to do) touch ups over a couple years of use (on high traffic areas such as the stairs' edging).
I made the mistake of using a different stain all together for my other deck last year (one of the best stains directly available in the Canadian market) and I am already seeing signs of failure ... I wished I stayed with Defy Extreme.

Daniel Aljure: After tons of research using deckstainhelp.com which is a fantastic resource, we discovered that anything at Lowes and HD won't hold up over time. This is rated as one of the best stains out there and we found It was very easy to apply, and the color is awesome. The rain beads every time and it appears to be working as it should. We applied to 1 year old pressure treated pine. Just be aware of the following:
- It will stain any surface FAST, to prevent this, just use a wet rag to wipe it off. If you're too late (which you will be) you can try mineral spirits (with a lot of scrubbing and risk damaging the surface). This worked pretty good on the painted Hardie Board, just don't scrub too hard, let the mineral spirits soak a little and then rub. For trim you can just have touch up paint for when you're done. I highly suggest having touchup paint for the surrounding trim surfaces. Way easier and faster to paint over the stain than to try scrubbing it off of trim
- The color appeared reddish at first. It freaked us out. It wasn't too too bad, but just disappointing. But then after a few days, it settled into the beautiful brown that it should be
- It's crucial to...

J-Deb: I stained a new, pressure treated (2x6 material) pine deck last year... I was not happy with the results (poor adherence, peeling and flaking), but to be fair to Defy, I don't think I waited long enough for the ACQ to dry from the wood. I stained after 3 months, when I should have waited longer. Also, tried to stain in sections, instead of the recommended complete length of board, and ended up with distinct, visible areas of overlap (stopping and starting). Don't do this! Complete a length of board(s) before you stop. This is a penetrating stain; if you don't follow the instructions to a T, you will have poor results.
This year I rented a random, orbit floor sander and using 36 grit paper, stripped the entire deck (500 square feet). Last year I used the recommended large brush to apply but found that to be very messy, although pretty quick and easy. This year I donned my knee pads and used a 3 1/2 inch staining paint brush. Much slower but I felt I had really good control of the application. Because I had such poor results last year, this year I only put on one coat, in hopes of minimizing any chances of flaking, plus I felt like trying to get the second coat down in a...

Suly: So far Defy Extreme semi-transparent stain seems to hold up to its advertising. I chose the light walnut and it looks great ! I used a Graco sprayer and results turned out great. I basically had to spray two coats at once due to the construction of my overlapping privacy fence. With Defy stain you should be able to touch up the fence at any time sense it's a true stain that soaks into the wood unlike others at Lowes and Home Depot which I will never use again. My only regret is that I didn't use Defy on my deck. Maybe that why Lowes and Home Depot doesn't carry it in there store. I had a total of approximately 1970 square feet to stain and I'll end up using around 11 gallons ... right on the estimated coverage of 150 sq. feet per gallon. If using a sprayer expect loss in over spray and priming the sprayer.
