This Wood Dye Aniline Dye 5 Color Kit Wood Stain Kit is the best on the market due to its ease of application, quality of material, and packaging. With this kit, you'll receive detailed instructions on how to mix the colors, apply the stain, and get the desired ratio. The alcohol-based formula ensures that the material will be protected from excessive moisture while the rich and vibrant colors reduce fading. Get the perfect wood stain with this kit!Michael Burcke: Good stuff, as far as I can tell. I used this kit to make up a quart of "fresh purpleheart" color wood stain. I got a quart can of Minwax water-based stain in "Barn Red", then I added about 1/2 packet of red dye and a full packet of royal blue to the base stain, mixed it with my drill for a few minutes, and just like that I had what does a pretty good job of matching the color of "fresh" purpleheart wood before it starts oxidizing. Happy with the results, what more can I say?

Ben DavisBen Davis: This was my first project with dyes ... at first I was kinda not sure as the colors are all dark in power form. But I followed the instructions (mixed with alcohol) and applied a few coatings. it doesn't take much!!! added a poly coat (about 4) and polished. Really happy with my first large wood project and really happy with my new computer desk!

blissin: Used it to dye some wood veneer. Mixing colours involves lots of testing on scrap wood to get the right colour. I found the blue and yellow to penetrate at different speed and depth, which gives a somewhat inconsistent hue across the surface. For my next trial, instead of mixing the dyes, will work with diluted solutions of each, applied consecutively.
Other than that, feels like a good dye. Hope it will be lightfast.

AshleyAshley: OK, I made a wall hanging as a gift. This stuff is interesting, I wasn't sure if it would do what I wanted, but it did. The black however did not want to work for me (see the neck in progress photo) so I actually ended up applying the powder directly to the cheesecloth I was using and applying it that way (which worked, as you can see). I like that it's non toxic and I was able to use it inside, too.
Some advice:
-Use gloves (double up if you can, my finger tips still got stained)
-Pour the powder into whatever containers over paper towels or something (the powder is super intense and will get everywhere)
-DEFINATELY use a practice piece of wood (or two) to find out what combinations/layers you want! If I didn't do this I would have failed miserably
-make sure you have paper or plastic under whatever it is you're staining

Ramin M: The red powder is very much like pink rather than red and blue has strong turquoise tendencies. It is more like a cyan/yellow/ magenta system. I wished the manufacturer had labeled the colors more accurately. I ended up with pink rather than red and had to add the yellow powder to the pink solution and apply it multiple times to try to hide the ugly pink. I ended up with a too dark red at the end. I also noticed it may show up as stain or dye (opaque or translucent) depending on the wood. I applied it to some checkers pieces I had bought and the effect is mostly opaque while on an oak wood, it shows very much like a color tint (transparent). There was the claim that by mixing different powders one can get various colors out of this. There are some user reviews who claim they have achieved this. To the contrary very often, I have not been successful. It seems some powders don't quite mix up and work well together and some powder dominate the others. I have tried creating green and violet with little success. One problem is the observed color of the solution may not be the final color of the dried product. I thought I was getting green or violet but then after the pieces dried out,...

Mystical Reality Is: Practical instructions are a bit vague with this product, but the product itself is very good. If you want to know how to get certain colors, search for a video on color mixing with watercolors. That should help, then you just have to work out the proportions. Bought this for a custom sofa build using red oak. The fabric is indigo velvet and the legs, arm and back supports are brushed aluminum. I like oak - it's durable and has nice grain, but I didn't want the natural oak color - it just doesn't go with the fabric or the metal well. I had originally designed the sofa to use purpleheart, but it is very hard to work and expensive. Also, purpleheart fades over time to a brown. Too many problems, so I opted to dye the oak. I didn't want the wood to stand out so much as blend in. I mixed up 1/8 tsp black, 1/4 tsp blue, 1/4 tsp red in several tablespoons of alcohol then topped up with warm tap water to make roughly 1 quart of dye in a 5 cup plastic food storage box with tight lid. I put several coats of dye on all pieces and left them overnight to dry. It was too red and not dark enough. I've painted for years, so color mixing is something I'm pretty good at. I added an additional 1/2...

abjeffersabjeffers: I recently took up woodturning as a hobby. I made some beech bowls that just looked a little too plain. Applied a little color to the rim, and now they pop!
The dye is easy to mix, easy to apply ( I used a foam brush). Might want to wear gloves though. My fingers were stained for a couple of days 😀
