SapphireRose26: This book was so good! I emotionally connected with the main character right away. I loved the atmosphere of the book. It flowed seamlessly from creepy haunting to murder mystery and back again, and at least part of the ending was a total shock to me. I will say that the psychic guy Detective Webb visited seemed like a filler chapter, as it went nowhere, but otherwise, it was a great book.

Carroll Thronesbery: I expected a good ghost story and got that. I didn't expect a good crime mystery, but got that as well! The character development made the book exceptionally engaging. I really enjoyed this book!

Colorado Cowgirl: This book has good cold case murder mysteries and a creepy setting but it is not scary. Yes there are ghosts but I did not get the fright factor in the old Inn or cabin. The plot was a bit convoluted and had a few holes in it, but it kept my interest and i wanted to finish it and see how it ended. Good but not the scary ghost story I hoped for.

Christine Rains: Dan is a police detective suspended for getting too personal with his case of a missing girl. He travels to his brother's cabin looking to wind down, but he finds himself tangled in the cold case of another missing girl. He sees a vision through a telescope of a crime which happened ten years ago, and as he digs into Ivy Trent's disappearance, what he uncovers could get him killed too.

This is the first book in the paranormal thriller series, Troubled Spirits. The writing itself is very good. Excellent details but they don't bog you down, and a perfect pace that doesn't loses tension. It wasn't scary enough to give me goosebumps, but as a crime thriller, I really enjoyed it. Make no mistake that Dan is a flawed character, but he still wants to do what is right. I liked the cast of characters and the line of suspects. A few nice twists, and while I did guess who the murderer was, it was a fun ride getting there.

Lesley Wright: I thoroughly enjoyed Dark River Inn which is an enthralling mix of crime and the supernatural, my two favourite genres.
Well written with great characters and descriptions and some really spooky events.
Can’t wait to read more from this author.

Peter Ffrench: Suspended from duty Dan goes to his brother's cabin for some R&R and it turns out to be what we call a busman's holiday. An abduction he sees through a telescope at the cabin turns out to be a past event, was the telescope a portal to the past or is Dan sensitive to the case as his suspension is for a similar offence where he became too involved and slept with the victim's mother but enough of that. He sees the abductee Ivy on a poster and is drawn to investigate her disappearance unearthing a connection to the Dark River inn practically next door to the cabin which incriminates the owners in a hit and run killing of her father and his own brother in her abduction and subsequent murder. The detective side is good as is the spooky stuff which is not too overpowering and Dan is not a super sleuth cracking the case as he finds at the end. Perhaps he is too trusting of women and needs to realise they are probably more devious and ruthless than he would like to think.
