Donald Jaeckels: Lube up your new O ring with Vaseline prior to placing it into the groove of the canister. This keeps it in place and prevents it from being stretched out of shape. O rings worked just fine.

John: I bought 2 of these because I had been using the original o-rings on my two big blue filters for several years. They went in fine but when I changed the filters six months later these had stretched about an inch or more making it impossible to fit them back in the filter housing. They had grown a lot! luckily I had saved the old o-rings and was able to put them back in so I could have water. Had I not, I would have had to go on a search for replacements. I read somewhere that this is common with o-rings but I had reused my old ones for 8 filter changes and they had never stretched. The only thing I had done differently this time was use the food grade lubricant Food Grade O-ring Lubricant - 4 oz Tube found here on Amazon, instead of petroleum jelly so maybe that had some effect. If you do order these, you may be replacing them with every filter change (which is probably what you are supposed to do anyway) so order some extra!
